Re: Spencer Rattler

I am impressed with his passing skills.

How good is he at running the ball?
His mobility at throwing on the run is impressive and while he won't have Murray's speed (who does ?), he will get his share of rushing yardage. I would say he's somewhere between Sam Bradford and Mayfield at running the ball. His high school highlights feature him eluding pass rushes very well and sometimes showing very good moves running downfield. I expect him to do a lot of sliding or running to the sidelines when running the ball.
More than anything, Rattler's passes are very accurate at any range. I'm excited to see how Riley will develop him further.
The 2019 schedule is set up to favor the development of OU's younger players and aside from the trip to UCLA on 9/14, OU should enter the Texas game on 10/12 unbeaten. This game shapes up to be very challenging for Riley's team as far as I'm concerned. Contrary to many OU fans, I believe Texas is close to returning to glory with Ehlinger leading the way and with back-to-back top ten recruiting hauls. QB Roshon Johnson is a 4-star QB coming in who could be a special player. The way I see it, a good Texas makes a better OU.
My point here, as far it concerns Rattler, is it won't surprise me if he's starting by the second week in October. I do not see him redshirting, but if that happens, it would obviously mean that either (or both) Mordecai or Kendall have really stepped up. However, I doubt if redshirting was part of Riley's sales pitch to Rattler during recruiting. Murray's return would likely put Rattler on the shelf until 2020.

Rattler is a better runner than both Bradford and Mayfield. I do not think he is as fast as Mordecai but faster than Kendall

Rattler has obvious physical skill but was clearly the second best quarterback in yesterday's AA game. He could've easily had two or three picks if the opposing DBs held onto the ball. I'm sure that LR will help him with his decision making skills. He's not ready to play at this level right now--what HS senior is at that position--but in time could be pretty special.

Kid at Clemson did just fine.
With Riley coaching him up and Grinch reworking the defense to be a strength instead of a liability, I imagine he could do pretty good. Especially with the line and skill players he’ll have around him. He seems like a team oriented player.

He was out there to impress and take risks without much penalty. I am impressed with Spencer. If he can get a little bigger he can be another high impact QB with lots of offensive targets spread across the field and in the backfield. Get the OL groomed into a strong cohesive unit and this offense will be a force. It really helped when our running game got rolling. I would make it a priority to keep Sermon...Brooks...and Pledger moving the ball with ease. More wheel routes to Brooks would be a good thing.

Team black also had a much much better defense. They put alot of pressure on team white's offense. Makes me wonder if the two QBs flipped sides, how it would play out.

He only missed the last regular season game and the Az state play offs (3 games). They lost to Perry/Gilbert in the last game by 31, a team they beat in the regular season by 26. He is an impact player. I've not heard anything negative about his playing abilities. He was provided with OU play book after he signed. He has been working with Mike Giovando for a couple of years.

Lincoln has been after him since he was a freshman so he must have something going

Ratller was clearly the most talented passer there. The Wr’s didn’t help a lot and the OL just wasn’t that good, which sucks considering it included ej and Wilkins. Also he didn’t get much time with Bridges.

I think the East Defense was just STOUT. Took a while for the West Offense to adjust to it.
Never know in these type games. The talent level can be very disparate - one "team" over the other.
From what we saw later in the game, I think we'll be fine with Rattler.
The Wisconsin QB commit could very well have played in his last "multiple passing touchdowns" game forever.

Too bad we don’t have that GA recruit DE coming in. He looks like he will be a force to be reckoned with. I was impressed with his motor and pass rush skills.

I wonder if Riley informed Rattler, in private, that Murray was not returning after this past season. Murray's situation may have influenced Rattler's entire recruiting.

I doubt it. Rattler's been solidly committed for a year and a half.
