Another of 'The Men of the 47 Straight' has passed away...

Bob Harrison was a phenomenal OU Football Player...He played Center/LB for the Sooners in 1956-57-58. He followed the 2 Time All American, Jerry Tubbs, at the position, and transitioned there, seamlessly, with no loss of talent. Bob earned All American Honors, himself, before going on to play Pro...

Bob Harrison was rough, tough, and big enough...Thanks for the Memories, Hog...

I saw a FB post from Mike McLaughlin who was Al Chandler's tight end backup for three years and the center on my intramural basketball team my senior year. Mike posted what a competitor Harrison was, when Mike lined up to block him in the Varsity - Alumni game. I know that even in the V-A game, that Hog Harrison didn't worry about who got hurt. He played full bore, even in a showcase game in the spring.

Bob played on Sooner teams that went 30-2 during his three seasons. The ND loss in 57, and the first Texas win over Bud in 1958. He had a nine year NFL career. The first three years and last three were in San Francisco with the 49ers. In between, pit stops at Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

I can tell you that players in the Varsity-Alumni game had to watch out for him. He played center and linebacker in the one platoon days. Linebacker mostly in the NFL. His senior year, he was a consensus All American. and he won the AP national lineman of the year award.

He was a college stud.
