Question by a fan who admits to knowing little to nothing about the technicalities of football:
Barry coached the wishbone for 10 years or so at OU. Did anyone on our staff ask him for his input? Like, the week of the game have a beer with him and just talk things over? Who on this staff knows 1/20th of what he knows about running it ... and stopping it ...short of Jimmy Johnson, who knew how to stuff it with great players at Miami.
Tim Kish coached at Army and they ran the wishbone while he was there. His defense practiced against it EVERY day. Why didn't he seem to know anything about stopping it? Surely, his teams ran across an occasional opponent who knew how ... and what they did to accomplish it. Shouldn't a defensive coach with his experience know how to prepare our players better than he did?
The simple answer might be that our guys just aren't as good as we hope or expect. They tried hard ... God knows, they were out there all night. Face it, it's probably gonna be a LONG season.
The offense may have to average 60 points a game in the Big 12-2. Be ready to be SAD.
