I admit there is some definite recruiting problems on staff, but lets compare recruit rankings of the last two years between the state of Alabama and Oklahoma
Alabama State Ranking 2016
5-Star LB Ben Davis
5-Star LB Lyndell Wilson
5-Star DE Marlon Davidson
4-Star DT Quinnen Williams
4-Star WR TJ Simmons
4-Star LB Tre Threat
4-Star ATH Malik Miller
4-Star LB Jamal Crouch
4-Star RB Lamical Perine
4-Star DT Darius Whitfield
4-Star WR Velus Jones
Alabama State Ranking 2015
5-Star DT Daron Payne
4-Star OL Lester Cotton
4-Star RB Kerryon Johnson
4-Star OL Tyler Carr
4-Star LB Darrell Williams
4-Star DE Prince Tega Wanogho
4-Star RB Nick Gibson
4-Star RB Bradrick Shaw
4-Star RB Desherrius Flowers
4-Star DE Anfernee Jennings
4-Star LB Richard McBryde
4-Star DB Michael Jackson
4-Star OL Brandon Kennedy
Oklahoma 2016 State Rankings
4-Star Tramonda Moore
Oklahoma 2015 State Rankings (arguably the best in class talent in Oklahoma since Gerald Mccoy's class)
4-Star OL Josh Wariboko
4-Star DB Will Sunderland
4-Star DT Marquise Overton
4-Star QB John Kolar
4-Star OL Jalin Barnett
In the last two years the state of Alabama has produced 24 players that were ranked as either 4 or 5 star
In the last two years the state of Oklahoma has produced 6 players that were 4 star (1 of which will not qualify)
OU gets the vast majority of players that are instate they offer (at least 75% if not higher). So if you switch were Bama and OU are located that would mean that OU would have landed at least 18 prospects that were either ranked 4 or 5 stars.
The biggest obstacle to OU recruiting is that the state doesn't produce near the quality of talent. Now could OU recruit better? Of Course. Do I think Nick Saban and company are the best recruiters (yeah but it helps to so much talent in your backyard)
