As the calendar is now in August and a month-long dead period, hit the reset button a bit to re-examine the 2019 class for Oklahoma.

There’s no doubt this will change, but here’s SoonerScoop’s Bob Przybylo’s third crack at predicting what #NewWave19 will look like for Lincoln Riley and company.

Quarterback

Phoenix Pinnacle’s Spencer Rattler

The easiest piece to this puzzle and maybe most important. Rattler committed to OU in late June, and he’s not backing off his word. Feel pretty confident Riley won’t have to scramble back through the 2019 quarterback class for any reason. Rattler is secure and will recruit heavily for OU going forward. (No change, May update)

Running back

Oklahoma City Millwood’s Marcus Major

With Major in the fold, there is no sense of urgency to find a second running back. If one happens, say with a Kenny McIntosh, then obviously OU is going to be open to such things. But if not, you could see either OU dip back into OKPreps with Booker T.’s Thomas Grayson (Nebraska commit) or just chill for 2020. Marcelias Sutton is the only guarantee to be gone for 2019. Most (including myself) assume Rodney Anderson will bolt as well, but maybe wait to see how the season progresses a bit?

Wide receiver

Carrollton (Texas) Hebron’s Trejan Bridges

Allen (Texas) High’s Theo Wease

Richmond (Texas) Travis’ Arjei Henderson

There is not a need at all for a fourth wide receiver. But if Garrett Wilson or Jadon Haselwood are still legitimately open toward looking at Norman, you don’t turn ‘em down. OU has three of the top six receivers in the country. That’ll do just fine.

Tight end

Plano (Texas) Prestonwood Christian’s Austin Stogner

Stogner has the distinction of being OU’s initial commit for 2019, and he’s going to keep that title the whole way. A lot of schools will come in his direction, but Stogner stays solid throughout and OU lands another four-star tight end. You can see it in his interactions with other recruits, yea, he’s not going anywhere. (No change, May update)

Offensive line

Allen (Texas) High’s E.J. Ndoma-Ogar

Sunnyvale (Texas) High’s Marcus Alexander

Camden (Ark.) Fairview’s Stacey Wilkins

The interior game is done with Ndoma-Ogar and Alexander. But you know OU needs at least one more offensive tackle, maybe two depending on the scenario. If you’re looking high school, then all signs point toward Danielson Ike. If you’re looking juco, then circle Finley Felix. As is, neither one is even close to being considered a sure thing for OU. It’ll be about getting them to campus and making the number work. One question can’t answer right now is whether Bill Bedenbaugh rather have, if he could only take one, the high school or the juco kid?

Defensive line

Manvel (Texas) High’s Kori Roberson

Jacksonville (N.C.) Southwest-Onslow’s Derek Green

Wichita (Kan.) Northwest’s Marcus Hicks

El Dorado (Kan.) Butler CC’s Jacoby Jones

Roberson, Green and Hicks makes a great starting point. You can add Jacoby Jones, IMO. After getting the offer at the #ChampUBBQ and then being so quick to return to Norman for an official visit FAU weekend, that matches up. That’s almost a carbon copy of what freshman linebacker Brian Asamoah did last year in terms of his first trip being BBQ and second trip an official for the first game of the season. That’s riding the wave of momentum. Marcus Stripling still feels like Texas A&M, and OU has to make a focused push on David Ugwoegbu to get the ball rolling there. Not sure if the Sooners ever do, though.

Linebacker

(Is there room for Cooper?)

San Bernardino (Calif.) Cajon’s Jonathan Perkins

Washington D.C. Gonzaga’s Joseph Wete

You can just as easily put Wete in the defensive line if you want, it’s a preference more than anything else. Perkins and Wete gives OU two quality linebackers, and Ugwoegbu is another guy that fits in this category. The biggest question is simply gonna be Shammond Cooper. It feels like both sides have a better understanding of where they stand following #ChampUBBQ, but it’s going to be a numbers-crunching issue. The only reason, because personal preference has Cooper > Perkins, the only reason Cooper wouldn’t make the cut is if the development at the MIKE and WILL is so dang good between Kenneth Murray, Caleb Kelly, DaShaun White, Brian Asamoah and Levi Draper that it simply doesn’t compute to take on another inside backer. Cooper is good enough, but will it matter?

Defensive back

(Powell will be the next commit in the secondary)

Richmond (Texas) Bush’s Jamal Morris

Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Oakland’s Woodi Washington

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas’ Jaden Davis

Odessa (Texas) Permian’s Peyton Powell

No group went through more changes as we said goodbye to Jones, Hill and Steele and added Washington. Now get ready for Peyton Powell. Family lineage aside (cousins with Sterling Shepard), this offer simply struck a chord at just the right time. Powell is expected to visit OU for FAU weekend (will double check) and then announce Sept. 26. Yea, it’s all looking good for the Sooners on that front to add Powell at safety. Does that make Isaiah Rutherford the odd man out? Seriously, do you pass on a legit Rivals 100 talent? And that might be more of watching what Tre Brown and Miguel Edwards do. If either is lacking a bit, you might take a third corner. As of this moment? No, Rutherford is not in. If he’s willing to wait this sucker out, there might be a spot. Don’t close the door on Jordan Battle, but that feels as though it’s starting to fade a bit.

What’s missing?

There are definitely a few unknown pieces four months until early signing period. You could see an H-Back somewhere down the road, for sure, and maybe Norman North’s Cole Mashburn gets a look there. With Austin Seibert being a senior, it’s time for Shane Beamer and Jay Boulware to find the next kicker as well for the Sooners, you’d think, although there have been zero talks of any noteworthy kicker so far during this cycle.

Rank prediction: Fifth.

Correct from March prediction: WR Theo Wease, WR Arjei Henderson, OG E.J. Ndoma-Ogar, LB Jonathan Perkins, DB Jamal Morris.

Removed from March prediction: RB Isaiah Spiller, WR Garrett Wilson, OT Wanya Morris, DT Carl Williams, LB Rian Davis.

Correct from May prediction: RB Marcus Major, OT Stacey Wilkins, DE Marcus Hicks, CB Jaden Davis.

Removed from May prediction: OG Jack Buford, LB Trace Ford, LB Shammond Cooper, DB Jarrian Jones, DB Dax Hill, DB Chris Steele.
