Do we really have no other options at CB? Where is Stanvon Taylor? Why has Dakota Austin regressed?

The defensive line is good. Put 4 of them out there. Linebackers are getting better.

I'm really getting worn out seeing us go through the motions after we prove we are the better team, and that's exactly what happened today. Maybe I'm the only one, but despite a handful of spots, I see talent everywhere and we're just not playing up to potential.

Good game for the o-line. Those are and need to remain our starters. Despite some lapses in those 3 drives in a row where we stalled with subpar effort and play calling, it was a day of growth.

Westbrook, Andrews, Basquine and Jones. Play them.

Joe Mixon...deserves more national attention.

Steven Parker...We'd be up shit creek without him.

Excellent post BCSSSSS....

The offense line really did the job against a fine TCU front 7. I think we need to forget the wide out rotation and play the ones you mentioned in the OP. Why do we have Green or Miller in the game? Play your best players.

Green, Miller and Lewis have been okay, the other guys are just better. I got no problem seeing them in the rotation, just feature the others. We can't afford to play "potential" right now.

Okay, you lost me. Westbrook, Andrews, Basquine and Jones. Play them. Trust me.......... Bench the rest......HA!

The D I seen out there is very young true frosh or someone that has never played there before. I feel it will get better. Just hope it is for the Texass game. Offense will be fine. Defense is a wait and see. The break downs have to be fixed or the offense will have to score in bunches.

We did some good things with the pass rush but man does our secondary (outside of Parker) stink.

We have absolutely no hard hitters (Roy Williams, Calmus) on our team.

The O-Line actually gave Baker some time in the pocket today.

Thought the play calling that one possession when we were trying to run clock when we tried passing instead of running (which was working at the time) really hurt us in the game.

Mike Stoops needs to be canned.

You would think we'd learn the lesson last year to not count the Froggies out. Hit them with the flamethrower and walk away. Just way too close than it should have been. Was Mike Stoops passed out in the 4th Quarter ?? Answers needed Bob.

Defense is a wait and see.

The defense is as strong as its weakest link and there is no need to wait on seeing that it is not getting fixed by Mike. We are collapsing in the 4th Q and Quick is still covering deep routes with no deep safety help???

This year's RRR will be one for the ages: D-Optional in the Big D. We're not going to be treated to such an offensive display of defense in a RRR game since Ricky Williams and Demond Parker ran wind sprints all day long against nearly invisible defenses.

And does anyone really feel good about this game after Charlie was in the same spot last year, without Buechele? Kid is going to light us like a X-mas tree.

You guys also realize that we were a drop and an overthrow from giving up two more long touchdown passes, right? If we can't cover anyone, we might as well rush 11 every down. *sarc*

Texas 10... a 10-1 formation with a deep safety... man on the outside that hits receivers hard at LOS every play... blitz every play...

The secondary is a serious problem. If you haven't noticed, we've proceeded through several people on one side of the field at corner. Quick was recruited as as a receiver and has been pressed into corner. That alone is a a mega red flag. Quick not only sucks, but sucks like space on an exposed air lock.

Now that isn't to say the guy is worthless, but it is to say that this staff has been unprepared. To press someone like this into service and cross fingers is not major college paycheck worthy. Mike Stoops needs to be fired yesterday for incompetence which is quite concerning considering we got rid of Venerables to allow his return. V has kicked the shit out of us twice...looks like we made a bad decision here.

The secondary has been a problem for years. As big a deal as those want to make out of Sanchez, he was not terrific. He was serviceable which is more than we have now. Serviceable would be great, but we have God Awful.

The offensive line has been better which is a really good thing in at least this ONE game. It has looked like the back end of a skunk the last few weeks so I'll reserve judgement on that.

Basically my opinion is that the secondary is garbage that has little hope of redemption this season and the reset of the defense isn't much better. Mike Stoops should be fired right now literally before the plane lands in Norman if it hasn't already and if it has, wake him up and do it post haste. If his brother doesn't like it, then he might consider a career change too.

This is not to say that I want Bob gone but he seems way too comfortable and that isn't good for him nor OU. OU will always be larger than the coach no matter his record, and if he's done then be done. If he isn't then get that shit in shape and let's go. We don't have time to play games with family...if Mike Stoops can't perform, then get rid of his ass right now.

This game reflects so much of what the Stoops' program is....a Big 12 offense (lots of points scored) with a Big 12 defense (lots of points yielded)....and a team that will be in the hunt for a Big 12 championship.....but not much else.
A quality win for sure, on the road with 4 players out and coming back from a 21-7 deficit against a team of equal talent.
OU will bring a team into the RRR game that should win, but after 2013 and 2015 and dodging a bullet in 2014, this game is a toss up as far as I'm concerned, regardless of how poor Texas is.

This team is going to win enough of the remaining games to satisfy the masses because the B12 is really weak this year. So weak any one of 4 or maybe 5 teams have a chance at the title. I believe OU will end up winning it but probably not without a loss. Another conference championship then on to the Sugar Bowl to play the SEC runner up.

20 years ago, I never would have believed the conditions of the Oklahoma and Texas programs would decline so much, especially the Texas program....that still holds its own against OU.
I never would have guessed the comfort level by many OU fans would exist for a winning percentage of 80%, a bowl record of 8-9 since 1999 (which includes 5 blowout losses) and having OU languishing in a weak conference.....all of which followed Stoops' "high water mark" in his second year.

That's the reality. At least for this season. Iowa State almost beat Baylor who beat O-State. Is there a decent defensive team in this conference? I don't think so. How does anyone expect to a beat a quality team come bowl season?

When you think, to even struggle in the Big 12, is not good. I mean TCU, a used to be Mountain West team. It's amazing a little fire under the coaches feet = better but not GREAT. I hope Bob is not getting out the anointing oil. We Still Let teams Hang around, The UGLY Defense Rears It's head.

After watching some of the game last night and this morning, good grief OUs secondary is AWFUL!!! And awful may be churching it up some. OU was very lucky to get out of there with a win yesterday. Several more games on the schedule if OUs offense comes out a little bit off and doesn't put up points right away, then they may fall into a hole they can't recover from.
And this is about 70% on Mike and 30% on Cooks. This is Mike's 5th season back at OU right?? And up until last year he was in charge of coaching and recruiting to the secondary. So most of these kids on the field are HIS PLAYERS that he recruited. ZERO excuse for having such a terrible time in finding players to at least look decent playing in the secondary. And the further we go, the more blame gets shifted away from Mike and onto Cooks. God almighty the secondary just looks frikin awful.

OUr defense is horrible. I would like to see some more zone coverage. Zone coverage might be able to hide some of the crappy coverage by the corners. In particular Quick and Austin. Defensive line looked pretty good against TCU.

Im glad we won don't get me wrong but the bad thing is no matter how bad we look sometimes Stoops' seat will never get warm.

I'm not reading this thread now so I might have missed it. I could link it from another board but not a chance. Some key players were out for the TCU game. If OU would've lost this game the TCU fans would be whining "Patterson beat Stoops because some starters were out for OU".

Thanks for the reminder, this was an ugly win. I remember now about missing TCU players.

Can we just play the free safety 20 yards downfield, behind whichever CB is playing opposite Jordan Thomas? Seriously, fly/post routes against our personnel at that spot are money. And Buchelle has great touch on the long ball.

Romar back has helped the defense, he and Walker, make a strong combo. We actually looked pretty good for 3 quarters. The defense only gave up 14 points, if you take into account the 2 Mayfield fumbles. The 4th quarter was alarming on both sides of the ball. The offense had TCU defense worn out but Riley let them off the Hook. And the defense went into prevent and mistake, mode.

The defense needs safety help and all to often it wasn't there. I know we had starters out but outside of Wil Johnston we really are not missing anything. Cobb might become a good DB but he's way to raw.

If you look at the OU roster we have 15 Linebackers on active scholarship and not one of these guys are ready to play D1 football as a starter. A few might make the three deep on a good defensive team but most are practice squad guys.

We had a 42-3 run that started in the second quarter and lasted through the third. Then I said that we'd need to score again to make sure we won. That was pretty nearly the case..

I've never heard Klatt broadcast worse. He's ragging on Riley in the fourth for abandoning the running game, but TCU was loading the box to stop the run.

If, in that case, we don't throw the ball, then you'd be complaining that he stopped throwing it, and went into a shell. It's about execution. There is a great play call, that got Andrews open on a crucial third down. He catches it under, a good call against their man to man, and Andrews slips and falls without being touched, apparently on his way to the first down.

In the OP, Joe credits Riley for getting the running game going. Again, say what? The players got the running game going. A successful first down run on third and ten by Perine, that set up the touchdown. But if Samaje doesn't get there, the peanut gallery would be ragging on the OC for calling a run on third and ten. You can't call running plays if it ain't working. Then the drop on third down in the last three minutes.

Kinda weird OLine lineup. Bobby Evans didn't start. We're already down two guys, but Samia started at right tackle and Dalton started at guard. Evans then came in and we started moving it, but it looked like Dalton played most of the second half, with Samia at tackle.

My ten thoughts on the game.

1. Parker's interception turned the momentum of the game, and maybe the season. And he made a half dozen tackles in space that were terrific plays.

2. The fact is that this offense, against good defenses, is not going to be able to run the ball without using some either zone read, or designated quarterback keeps, to keep the other D honest. For a while, TCU disregarded that, knowing we really don't want to run Mayfield much. But it changed the offense when Baker ran it.

3. When I watch other games, I see receivers in space making plays, and especially yards after catch and yards after contact. We finally got Westbrook going. But Miller and Smallwood aren't the players I expected them to be, by now. That drop on third down before the last field goal has to be caught. Not a great throw? Yes. But I'm reminded of the old Bill Mazeroski quote: "Don't complain about the bad hops. Your grandmother can field the easy ones." CTDB Especially on third down.

4. I don't think OUr defense was the only gassed unit on the field at the end. They finally got it right, but the officials did all they could to screw up that intentional grounding call before we finally got a stop to end it. A crucial call.

5. Joe Mixon might be a better receiver than running back. If we don't get somebody besides Andrews and Westbrook to throw to, we're going to wear those guys out before Halloween.

6. You can't know why. Maybe it's learning the defense. Maybe it's something else. But it's hard to imagine why Doucet didn't play at all against tOSU, and didn't play more yesterday.

7. When the fourth quarter started, I said that we wouldn't win if we didn't score again. Those three points weren't exactly affirming, but it did make a difference. If TCU had only needed a field goal, they might have figured out a way to get to the red zone. I wasn't liking our chances when they took over anyway, down only six. Obo sucked it up, and made three plays.

8. When you look at defenses, not just in the Big XII, but also around the country, these scoring orgies are close to becoming the norm, with two matched teams. If you don't score at least 40, then you'd better not complain about your defense, because you're likely to surrender more than 40. Against a tired defense in the fourth, who's already played 80 snaps in the first 45 minutes, you can get from your own 30 to the red zone on the other end quickly. If you didn't see the end of the UTenn win at Georgia, go cue up those two hail Mary touchdown passes in the last 15 seconds.

9. Michiah Quick is learning that corners get a little tired. Even elite receivers get to rest occasionally. DB's play pretty much every snap.

10. The broadcast crew implied that Cobb couldn't play because of injury. But I saw somebody with jersey number 4 on special teams. I believe he's the only 4 we have.

and 11. Any RRR tickets available for under face value?

You're right.....we laymen in your "peanut gallery" are always looking for things to complain about. Any fool knows that there is nothing wrong with this team. It's right where it needs to be.
Having yet another preseason highly ranked Oklahoma team fall flat on its face is surely something we all relish, especially those of us who have lived and died by this team for 40-50 years, or longer.
