I saw this on si.com. Interesting read.

I'd like to see every conference play 9 conference games. I also think that somebody needs to step in and only allow each team to play one FCS opponent and that game has to be played week one. Play one more non conference game and then start the conference slate. Play 11 regular season games, then have the conference championship games.

I wish they would do away with conference championships, there is absolutely no need for them. Conference champs should be crowned based on season records, that way the playoffs would be exactly correct every time and there would be no 3 or 4-loss team upsetting the apple cart with a fluke win.

Either that or do not count conference championship results towards playoff seeding.

I agree with doing away with conference titles going towards playoff seeding. It just opens the door for underserving teams getting in. Imagine if conference champions got automatic playoff bids, and Northwestern had beaten Ohio State a couple of weeks ago. You would have a 4 loss team in the playoffs. That would be a terrible system.

Exactly. You don't see conference championship games in the NFL because the season determines the champion.

As for this season, Bama, Clemson, OU, and OSU all won their season and championship games, but what if Clemson had lost to Pitt? or OU lost to Texas? or OSU lost to Northwestern?

We all know Bama would still have made the playoffs even with a narrow loss to Georgia, but Clemson, OU and OSU would have all been automatically eliminated.

The playoffs then would look like this:

1. Notre Dame
2. Georgia
3. Bama
4. Michigan

Notre Dame vs Michigan
Georgia vs Bama

Oh, and what if conference champions got an automatic bid to the playoffs? Then it would look like this:

1. Georgia
2. Texas
3. Northwestern
4. Pitt

Georgia vs Pitt
Texas vs Northwestern

YUCK!
