- A 33 point win is a good thing no matter what the look is.
- Kyler Murray is not only a great player but a leader. He showed willingness to sacrifice his body when game situation dictates. There was a play where he stayed up and took the hit to get a first down in a spot where we were trying to answer a score. Watching so far this year Kyler has given up yardage to slide and avoid hits a lot. Good to see he’ll put his head in there when it’s important.
- is there a better WR duo in the country? CD lambs ability to score from 87 showed he has a bit more raw speed than I thought he did. But he is playing across from one of the fastest guys in the country in Brown. That kid just has amazing burst.
- Kennedy Brooks looked really good. Showed more burst than Sermon, and looked pretty good catching the ball as well. We have been struggling to replace Rodney Anderson, and while this kid probably isn’t going to be that guy this year, he adds a physical runner with burst to the rotation, and appears to be someone who can execute the entire offense. Nice find in week 5.
- Chunk plays gotten/given up- offensively it goes without saying we are doing amazing things we ran 54 plays yesterday and had 20 yards or more 11 times. Conversely, Baylor runs an amazing 98 plays, and has 4 plays over 20 yards. When you consider that half the game we are up 3 plus scores that shows a decent performance. In that situation it’s less about shutting the opponent down than it is making them earn a score with a sustained time consuming drive, Think of last year....our problem was giving up explosive plays more than anything else. This week, we really didn’t do that.
- Kenneth Murray has gotten better every week. Follows a 28 tackle performance against a triple option team with a 17 tackle game against a team that makes him make plays in space. Well done.
- Tre Brown looks like a kid that can become a difference maker at corner, he hasn’t got it all figure out yet and struggles a little bit on keeping guys from getting under him for plays in the seam, but he is breaking up passes and keeping guys in front of him. Hopefully we see more of him in weeks to come.
- Ronnie Perkins looks like a guy who can be a difference maker. 2 sacks yesterday and played solidly all day.
- we have a Caleb Kelly sighting. Caleb made plays in limited time yesterday. Really good to see he hasn’t checked out. Perhaps we will see him resurrect his career over the rest of the next couple of seasons.
- Run defense. Baylor runs for 77 yards on 34 carries. Their long run was 12 yards. On the heels of the army game where at times we looked like we were getting pushed around, the rush defense, and pass rush yesterday give me some hope.
