My gf (local) was telling me about these Obama phones. I thought it was a joke or a myth at the most. Last week, she came home with an income form to fill out. If you listed you income below X amount, they were handing out free phones in the box right there in front of the 99cent store. No proof needed. Phone on the spot. I still couldn't believe it, so we got in the car and drove by. There it was, a folding table setup on the sidewalk in front of the store with 100s of phone boxes stacked up and people filling out applications on clipboards.

These aren't call-only phones either. These are smart phones with touch screens and data plans. The whole 9 yards.

PERHAPS a landline for the poor elderly, bedridden and disabled OR any vet that can’t afford a telephone for emergencies, but an iPhone.....no.
