This article caught my eye and I'm happy that I read it...Very interesting story about this young man. I only knew that he was a Captain, a Team Favorite, and entertained young patients at OUHS, frequently. He is so much more than that, as his story reveals.

This is a long, but easy read. Rarely do we hear of such dedication and struggling...It's good to learn of Nila's positive results, and the opportunities in his future...

A Salute to OUr #54...

Yep, I read stories like that and it makes me feel like a big ole whiner knowing how good I had it in comparison.

Wow!

He was 180lb in high school without eating and nearly dying from starvation.
I didn't get to 180lb until I was an adult, and I had to drink protein/weight gainer shakes and eat two dinners every evening for a few months!
His frame makes mine look like a 10 year old girl's.

Reminds me when I tried to talk my way onto the football team at Lawton Ike, weighing about 140 lbs.
They had a good laugh at my expense... circa 1964.

(actually, that wasn't that small then. The RBs were around 150 and the biggest lineman was a svelte 200. Times have changed drastically)
