Hi Sooner Fans... I am curious if you have any tips for people visiting for games? I have a hotel in Moore (Marriott Spring Hill Suites) and one a little closer to the Stadium (Hampton Inn Norman) but both take about 15 minutes. Any insight there?
  • What would you suggest for parking?
  • What areas are must see on game day?
  • Places to eat a big lunch before the game in Norman?
  • Any tips or suggestions if you knew zero about the area?
  • What area of stadium to sit in?
I am happy to return the favor with any questions for next year as an OSU alum that lives 2 miles from the horse shoe. I have gone to over 100 games and can answer nearly any question.

I'm sure you will get many suggestions from the board. I would probably stay as close as possible (Hampton Inn). There is parking available near campus on people's property for around $15-$20. There are a number of places to eat at campus corner, O'Connells, the Hideaway, Pepe Delgados. The city streets are really torn up now for some reason, especially Lindsay Street which is the main access in. I doubt that it will be open by the time of the game. You may be able to come in on Highway 9 turning north on Chatauqua to Boyd, then right to the campus. Or you could come down Main turning south to campus. It is a night game, so the sun probably won't be a problem, but I like to sit on the West side. The choices are lower level or upper deck. I prefer the lower level, but that's up to you. If you are between the 20's, there really is not a bad seat. I went to school in Cleveland, and visited the Ohio State campus many times. Is the band coming to Norman to dot the i?

Thanks for the suggestions. The band will be there... They are traveling to Oklahoma and Michigan State this year. Lindsay street is exit 108 and the GPS has me getting off at exit 109 or 110 further north one of them through Boyd like you suggested.

As of right now I will be in Section 32 Row 11. I just always like to check because the Sugar Bowl for example the stands are roughly 25-30 yards from the field so the second level is really the best seating. I sat in the second row there and it was difficult to see the entire field.

Exit 108A is Highway 9 and because of the construction on I35, the exit is very difficult to see. Get off of I35 at Main Street going East, come down about 4 stop lights to Berry Road, turn right to Boyd, turn left to campus. Do not come down Lindsay. It is blocked off at Berry Road. Section 32, Row 11 is fine, just slightly low. I am in Row 55, so I have a greater view of the field.

Any other suggestions? I am arriving Friday morning in OKC so i'm not sure if there are any events Friday evening. Also, how early would people suggest arriving on Campus Saturday?

Campus corner will be hopping from around noon on. Lots of tailgating. Walk around campus. It's a compact rectangle. Interact with people. I am sure you will be treated fine.

Thank you

How we would be treated is one thing I was thinking about earlier this week... Wisconsin and Penn State fans are just horrendous to visitors. Other than that I have had great experiences at Michigan, Texas, Alabama side at the Sugar Bowl was surprisingly nice, and Notre Dame. Miami U fans were awful at Fiesta Bowl. I don't plan to act like a jackoff so I don't think there will be any problems.

Just a reminder. There is a lot of construction on city streets. To get to campus, come down Main to Berry Road, turn right to Boyd, then left to the campus. Campus corner is blocked from traffic on Boyd from University to Jenkins, so if you take this route, you should park on someone's lawn around Lahoma or Chautauqua and Boyd. If you park here, it is a 10 minute walk to the stadium. The stadium is located in the middle of campus. Campus corner starts on the corner of Boyd and Asp. Try to enter the stadium about 30 minutes early. For this game, it may take a little longer to get into the stadium. By the way, if you are coming in on Friday, you may want to consider visiting the OKC bombing memorial, or the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. If you walk around campus, there are a lot of interesting Native American sculptures and seating benches. Also, the Fred Jones Art Museum will be open and will be free of charge.

OU fans are usually some of the more respectful in college football. Most understand the game and know a bit of it's history. I've seen a few asshats on occasion, yet usually they were quieted by more sober fans around them.

Pretty much, if you're not a Whorn or a Hurricane, we'll let the beatings be done on the field and invite you to join us for some bbq and drinks after the game...

They have relocated the visitor seating with the closing in of the south EZ so not sure where all the TOSU fans and band will sit. Tailgating has been moved because of the construction on the south end of the stadium. I'd still come in off of Hwy 9 and then turn north and start looking for a parking spot. Campus Corner is on the north side of the campus and the stadium is in the SE corner of the campus. You will find the campus very similar to Big 10 campuses. It is beautiful.

After arriving today and going around the campus and city 2 thoughts.

1.) so far nearly everybody we came in contact was ridiculously nice.
2.) parking is going to be insane LOL. I am planning to arrive around 11AM-1PM. For just sitting at a restaurant/ bar and watching football would the Campus Corner be the best spot? Specifically what place would have the best food? Do you think any places will have US hockey game on?

You're not going to get a Michelin 5-star on campus corner. If you really want a good hamburger and fries, go to the Garage on Main street (five minutes from campus by car). If you want great sliced brisket, go to Van's Pig stand on Porter (five minutes from campus by car). If you want pizza, go to the Hideaway on campus corner. If you want authentic Mexican food, go to Pepe Delgados on campus corner. O'Connell's on campus corner has hamburgers and all the football games on. What is hockey?

I've parked free at Republic bank, 401 W. Main. a few times. FWIW.
'The Garage' has pretty good burgers.
The Mont, also tasty comfort food too.

Burgers or Mexican food sounds good. Went to Paseo grill last night and that was awesome.

I went to the Walgreens yesterday beside that Bank so I know exactly where that is. If I keep going toward Stadium would you guess I can pay 20 bucks to park around .5 miles away? If not I will park at the Bank or Churches near there.
