I made my way to Arizona for the holidays this past weekend in three fairly long flights. I met a Sooner (or Sooner family) on all three flights and in between. I download OU games from Youtube when I can and watch them in downtime (flights). Once my first flight landed in Amsterdam I was approached by a Nigerian-American that proudly told me he has two grandsons that graduated from OU and a granddaughter graduating in May 2018. All three went to high school in Dallas Metroplex. He saw my OU tag on my all purpose brief case. My next leg was from Amsterdam to Minneapolis. I was watching the Big XII champ game and got a tap on my shoulder from across the isle. A young lad told me he graduated from OU last May and was in Utrecht for a job interview with Allseas. He felt really good about the interview. He was from Dallas and went to OU for a particular major. Petroleum Technology something or another. I sat next to a young couple from Minnesota on the flight to Phoenix. They both went to school at OU. He works for FAA in OKC and seconded to Honeywell in Phoenix.
I think I have told this story here before. I lived in southern France in the early 90s and spent every other week in Paris on business. I used rail system exclusively traveling within France. I was on a rail platform waiting on a train and a very large and fit black guy (DE or LB size) was going the same direction as I. He had on an expensive looking leather sleeved OU letterman jacket. It was decked out as if he was truly an athlete. Never the shy guy I marched over and asked him if he lettered at OU. I got a big smile and said No. He bought the jacket in Paris at a high end sports apparel shop for the colors and unique design (patches and badges were kinda in style). He said that hardly a week went by without someone asking about the jacket. It gave him cause to look into OU and Oklahoma history at the library.
