A point to ponder about the 'W' in Knoxville, earlier in the year…That might have been our most important win outside these last 3 Gauntlet Games. I'm a Statistics Nut, and I just realized how close Tennessee was to being undefeated and how close they came to being in the same ‘Playoff Conversations’ we are in right now. The Vols finished the season 8-4. Those 4 losses had a combined margin of only 4.3 points per game, almost beating 3 of the Top 12 Teams…(OU 24-31…’Bama 14-19…Florida 27-28) and a decent Arkie Team, 20-24. So IMO, at the end of the season, The Committee has to take a good hard look at OUr Win, on the road, in one of the toughest environments in College Football…Or maybe they already have, and that helped vault us into the Big Picture...

Senior, can you find the Frank Beamer tube where he is dancing with his final team? You're good at that stuff. I saw it on ESPN and it's really funny.

I would hate to replay Tennessee this year, espicially at Neyland..

Road win at SEC Tennessee was and is a solid non-conference win the Committee cannot overlook.

Next year TOSU and Houston for non-conference opponents. No backing off by Joe C and Bob S.

When I think of 2000, I remember names like Ryan Fisher, Roger Steffen, Ontei Jones, Brandon Moore, Barry Holleyman, and Corey Callens who may not have been the stars of the team, but among whom we found some senior leadership that carried the team when Heupel was injured.

When I think of 1985, there were so many freshmen and sophomores that made major contributions, and the leadership of some upperclassmen like Jeff Tupper and Travis Simpson come to mind, as well as some effective punting by Mike Winchester.

We had so many superstars in 1974 and 75 that it is obvious that we should have won. But, we had a few who weren't supposed to be quite that good, like Jimbo Elrod who was probably better known as a highschool wrestler. Yet, he was so effective beside LeRoy. With all of the talent we had in the defensive line, a key figure was Glen Comeaux who could do it all, just not as well as a Selmon. Would we have won in 75 without a second string fullback, Jimmy Culbreath, who broke Michigan's back in the Sugar Bowl with a nine-yard run on 3rd and 8 on about their twenty? Does anyone even remember Terry Webb, probably our best offensive lineman not named Roberts. I've never met anyone who remembers that Lucious' first replacement was an undersized NG out of Lake Charles, George Walrond.

I loved Tommy and Jerry. But, my favorites included the guy who blocked for Tommy and Clendon, Billy Pricer, who had a few years with the Colts, again because he could block. I don't know how many times I heard the names John Bell or Ed Gray on defense, and I'm not sure that the people that he hit can remember Bell.

The point is that these were often the players who had the character that won a title for us. They may not have had the pure talent of a Sims, Pruitt, or Selmon. But, they won games for us, and they kept the team focused. Champions go forward without getting sidetracked. You can't lose to a Texas every year and even be considered. The leaders may have been those whose names we have forgotten. But, they made it happen.

This year, Baker stands out as a leader, as does Sterling.

The radio announcers last night made a stark comparison between the 2000 and 2015 teams. Lack of major injuries to key players. I think it was Teddy L. that said this group is like Gumby...knocked down and back up. He also talked about the serious tone in the locker room before the game and at halftime. He said he cannot remember an OU with suck focus and determination. On a side note, I got an email from an ASU grad with serious football knowledge. He said there is not a team in the top 25 that OU cannot beat right now. Awe said the 4.5 weeks until the next game is the only enemy OU has at present.

From a few days ago....but worth a reminder since we won last night.

WE WILL WIN IT ALL. PERIOD.

What am I then Senior, burnt toast ? No, all kidding aside I have a little project for your consideration to entertain the rest of us wannabes during the interim. Could you tell us what it was like travelling as part of the entourage to Big Games such as a regular season away games (like Tenn) or any memorable bowl experiences from the past? Any stuff you are willing to impart will be appreciated !
