Our DL coach Ruffin McNeill said Du'vonta was the most powerful defensive lineman he has ever coached in his many years coaching.

Lampkin sat out the opener vs UTEP..

I don't think the kid is in football shape. From what I have heard, he can't go more than four plays without a breather. Really sad.

Ruffin McNeill's exact comments about Du'vanta Lampkin

From theTulsa World who says . "McNeill is hopeful that the 6-4, 335-pound defensive tackle can make an impact this season."

McNeill says “I like his strength. He’s one of the most powerful individuals that I’ve coached in my 37 years of coaching,” . “Now we have to work on his pad leverage where he can dominate people on every play. We talk about that with Lamp. Like all of them, Lamp has had a very ‘coach-me-coach’ type attitude.”

I did not read anything about his stamina. Give us a link roy

Those words about lampkin mean very little. I want to see it on the field and due to a coaches decision we failed to see that. That's not a good sign in my opinion

I want Lampkin and every OU player to be a solid contributor, but at this time Lampkin is a complete unknown commodity until he's proven himself...with or without being able to do back flips or leap tall buildings with a single bound.

I don't care how fast he runs a 100. I want to know how fast he can push a 300lb guard 4 yds back into a qb.

Some people just can't practice well, and it's not determination, then they have a flip they switch for competition.

I would rather have the guy save his might for game time. We shall see when he lines up and gets after it.

Ever hear the name Moe Dampeer?

He was another one that just wouldn't work and was consistently out of football playing shape. No coach is going to have any confidence in those kids who don't take their team responsibilities and they always let you down.

Yes I remember Moe who was actually Curley Joe. Sooners have had lots of those guys in past. Can lift a bus but can't move out of their own shadow. But also there are guys that play better when it matters most. Guess we shall see how Lampkin centers himself.

Ruffin was correct. Lampkin played very well tonight vs. Oh St.

And, herein lies the problem with guys like Lampkin. I think everyone knows that Lampkin is a very good talent. He has the size and the talent to be a difference maker. He has all the tools to be a great player at a place like OU. There is a great need for another solid DT on the current OU roster.

But, with the notable exception of a couple of games the guy has been a no show. He originally signed with Texas, then got out of that LOI and eventually signed/enrolled with OU. He is a RS Sophomore as he redshirted in 2015, played in 5 games of 13 games in 2016 and has appeared in one of the first three 2017 games.

The guy was suspended for the UTEP game, played against Ohio State. I think the guy was in street clothes last night. I have no idea and have heard not a peep about why he wasn't dressed for the Tulane game. The knock on him is that he is just lazy with no work ethic.

I can understand it if he was hurt. But, there has not been a single word out of OU about his status for last nights game. I think we have to assume that he was suspended for some reason. I would love to see the kid playing and making a contribution.

We have a couple of current walkons that are busing their tail to earn playing time. Meanwhile, we have Tanner Schafer at QB and the two WRs Morris and Tease that are working hard and making a contribution. I would rather see Lampkin's scholarship put to good use with one of these kids than see Lampkin just waste it.

OU has given Lampkin three years to prove he wants to play. If he isn't going to knuckle down and work then why keep him on scholarship. I can't think of a good reason.

Good post. Does anyone have information on why he didn't play yesterday?

He must be one of those uncoachable guys unfortunately. You run out of extra chances given eventually. Seems he has not grasped that he has to prove he is dedicated. If he is suspended 2 out of 3 games....he is not dedicated.
