What a great tribute to the greatness of Baker Mayfield and Lincoln Riley

Those stats are irrelevant since none of them were gained in games against any of the other playoff teams.

The only stat that matters is OU needs to win 2 more games and then gets to haul a natty trophy back to Norman.

You are dead wrong like the stat of OU's Offense gaining 8.44 yards per play against ALL thirteen of OU's opponents combined a full yard more than any other team in the nation.

That doesn't matter what stats OU gained during the regular season. Only the stats in the next 2 games matter. Sorry, but I'm right.

No you are dead dead wrong. These great OU nation leading stats definitely MATTERED.

Did you have a Heisman vote? OU'S STATS DEFINATELY MATTERED AND PROPELLED BAKER TO WIN THE HEISMAN). Would Baker had won the Heisman without these great stats?
Did these stats MATTERED TO THE ALL American teams
All of the other awards MATTERED.(THESE STATS CONTRIBUTED TO THE AWARDS)
OU being in the top 4 MATTERED. (Would they have made the top 4 without these stats?)
If OU were not in the top four they would not be in the next two important games)
OU's great recruiting MATTERED.(Did these stats help recruiting?)
OU being respected nationally MATTERED.

Billy it may not had mattered to you but it mattered to millions of Sooner fans and to the voters..

That's great. But those are stats for games already won and over. OU still has 2 games to play to win a title. So those stats moving forward mean nothing. You are posting these stats as if the season is in the books and you are celebrating. Season isn't over. You are celebrating stats. Awards and such are great. But I am looking forward celebrating a title.

I would say the same thing in 2008 when OU led the country in offense during the regular season. We saw how much that mattered in the national title game. Those stats did nothing for OU then when playing for a title, they mean nothing now when going forward and playing for a title. Respect is earned on the field. Not in combing thru lines of stats.

Billy OU would not have the opportunity to win the national championship & Baker to win the Heisman without their great accomplishment of these stats

The team is motivated & confident to win it all
Baker came back to OU to win it all

But its silly to diss all they have accomplished so far.

Never said they weren't the basis for a great season to this point and putting OU in the position they are currently in. And you saying I am dissing all they have accomplished only shows you are misreading this situation. Go back and reread my initial post in this thread.

You are only as good as your last game, have to keep winning for any of it to matter. Lose at this point and what happened during the regular season will seem like it was all for naught. Its not what you have done but what have you done for me lately. If OU lives by what they did during the regular season and rests on their laurels they will be in trouble. Playoffs is a whole new season pretty much and I hope Riley has a few wrinkles up his sleeves. BOOMER BABY!

Exactly man!!

Great post Bull, and all very relevant to why this Sooner team should be feared in the playoffs.

Someone from the coaching staff or any number of posters here could have posted word-for-word what you did, and Billy would be all "Hell Yeah Man!" about it. He knows.

OU's 2008 team averaged 54 points per game and averaged around 550 yards per game going into its championship game with Florida.....then scored a whopping 14 points in the 24-14 loss.
Not sure the gaudy regular season numbers served OU all that well that night.

Only scored 14 because we stunk in the red zone. And I believe we were short two of the key offensive weapons that helped compile those stats during the regular season. But to the point of the OP, it's hard to say how we'll stack up against Georgia. I think we'll manage to score a few points, but our defensive is going to have to be able to stop those two great backs of theirs, or at least slow them down. Turnovers are going to be hard to get against them, so we'll have to take care of the ball and play exceptionally well on special teams.

Me and the kids froze our tails off to see DeMarco go out on the first play against Mizzou but thankfully Sam put up gaudy numbers anyway and DM wasn't missed that night. We sure needed him in the Champ game.

Stats then and now are great but mean nothing except the books if we don't take care of business ONE game at a time for (hopefully) two more...games

DeMarco Murray sat out the Florida game which hurt, but the play calling inside the 5 yard line on two occasions in the first half was awful. What might have been a 21-7 OU lead was only a 7-7 tie.

Agreed. Kevin Wilson reached deep into the depths of his brain cavity and managed to deliver the contents of his colon.

Yes I wasn't going to slam on coaches of the past but BGBS should have taken Sam aside and allowed him free rein after missing on the first chance...

As to the O/P and Stats: they are like opinions and everyone knows what they say about those...

And most recently, the 2015 Orange Bowl against Clemson. That game featured Baker and Riley calling the shots. That offense during the regular season was just insane!! Then they face off with Clemson's defense and OU managed 17 points that night.

So my point stands...regular season stats are completely irrelevant when going into the playoffs.

And Kevin Wilson was totally inept in the Nat. Championship game vs. Florida.
His play calling was pitiful.
