RJ Young is at the regents meeting now.
OU has announced they will undergo a $160 million renovation to the stadium. This renovation will be the south endzone and will take care of all the player/performance/living upgrades discussed in the original master plan.
They have raised $43 million in private funding. $117 million will come from bonds.
Boren admits they have scaled back the renovations for now. The rest of the project will be tabled for the time being.
Boren reiterates that no state funding or student fees will be used in this phase of the renovation.
Boren calls this plan "frugal" and says this was the course they needed to take due to the decline in oil prices.
Capacity will exceed 84,000 but future renovations could change that number and lower it.
The initial master plan called for the full stadium upgrades to be done by the start of 2016. In the updated renovation it will just be the south endzone renovation that is ready for the start of 2016.
I'll put up updated renderings here in just a minute.
