Phillips is taking an unofficial visit to LSU, on the 20th I think. If we lose him, this will be a HUGE loss. A 4 star LB who might end up a 5 star. Stoops will need to have his A game on during his in home visit. Can't afford to lose this player.

LSU Linebackers (Jacob Phillips wants immediate play time which is why he chose OU)
MLB - Donnie Alexander (4* Senior - spot locked down)
ILB - Devin White (Consensus 4* Sophomore - spot locked down)
OLB/DE - Arden Key (Freshman All-American now a Junior - spot locked down)
OLB - Michael Divinity (Consensus 4* Sophomore played some as Freshman then pulled for mostly special teams)

Really, their only spot that's up for grabs is that OLB position and Jacob figures to be an ILB. He doesn't stand a chance at ILB with Donnie and Devin, IMO.

Sure, but other than Obo, which LB on the roster has another spot locked down? Beal, Bolton, DeBerry, Doucet, Kelly or Terry?
Kelly is probably going to figure into one spot. I have trouble believing his listed size at 6'3" 230lbs. He sure looks like a thin dude in the game. Obo most likely stays in his position. That leaves Jordan's spot in the middle totally up for grabs. At the very least, Jacob would probably figure into the 2-deep with significant playing time.

#19 - top LB on this next play

Roy is definitely stouter in the base - ass and thighs. Hard to tell upper body because players have progressively moved to slimmer and slimmer pads.

what made Roy Williams special was not his size....rather it was his instinct and technique. Notice how rarely ball carriers broke tackles against him. He tackled the waist and legs (old school coaching) instead of hitting high in the shoulders area (what our current LB's do). He never gave up yards after contract. Now days, we have DB's and LB's giving up 4-7 yards after contact due to hitting high and getting taken for rides. It's so damn frustrating watching it over and over and over. I don't know if they teach to hit high now...or not. Maybe it's "safer" to do that....but it's certainly not as effective.

I think these guys are more focused on trying to hurt rather than trying to play football (make the tackle). The higher you hit, the more likely you are to inflict brain/head trauma. Taking out the legs/torso rarely results in much head action as the body increasingly absorbs the hit as the energy transfers upwards.

The upper body is a more stable object too. Jukes start with the legs and the upper body is the last to move. You're more likely to strike your target if it's still where it was when you took aim.

Back to Jacob Phillips: I can't see OU losing him to LSU or any other program. Stoops and his staff has worked too hard to keep him committed.
