I just hung up the phone w/ my oldest Sis who I'm planning our Mom's 80th Bday bash with which will take place Labor Day weekend in OKC. It's gonna be a fun weekend seeing many friends and family I haven't seen in years ....can't wait. She informed me that I have been chosen as her lucky date to attend the first game of the BV era and home opener against UTEP. So I'm also just a little bit stoked about that to say the least.
The interesting part? It made me realize that I haven't attended a home opener in YEARS but I couldn't remember how long. I remember a few scorchers over the years, but went back and checked and none of them were actual home openers. Does anyone else remember that the infamous Miami game where Aikman broke his leg and gave birth to the rebirth of the bone was a home opener played on October 19th??? I guess due to a scheduling snafu or another team backing out OU waited forever to play that year. But anyway that was the game....the last home opener that I attended was a game played in Norman on October 19th-that's crazy.
Anyway I had forgotten and that's some pretty good OU trivia that I bet a lot of fans would lose a bet with so thanks for letting me blabber. I still remember how quiet that place was as Aikman lay on the turf and I can still picture Michael Irvin waving his arms and celebrating his huge TD in front of us in North EZ. So yeah OU lost the last home opener I attended...... but we did go on to win a Natty that same Season.....just sayinnnnnnnnnnnn
