So something I’ve noticed is how bad OU has been on opening drives this season. So I decided to go back and see the results of the opposing team’s first drive of the game. I didn’t include WCU.

Tulane touchdown

Nebraska FG

WV touchdown

K St - drove down to the OU 19 before fumbling (Bonitto ran that one back 70 yards)

Texas -touchdown in one play

Tcu punt

Kansas touchdown

Tech punt

Baylor- drove the whole field but turnover on Downs at the OU 4

Iowa st touchdown

So for those counting at home that’s ten games. Out of ten, they’ve given up touchdowns on 5 of them and 1 field goal. Baylor and K state also drove right down the field but didn’t not score which obviously Baylor could have settled for a FG and K state could have just held on to the ball.

I don’t know exactly what this means. Is it that OUs defense isn’t locked in early? Is it that the other teams are seeing something on film that they can really succeed with their script to start the games? Don’t know but as well as OUs defense has looked at times. It is surprising. The WV touchdown was their only one of the game. Iowa state didn’t score again until the fourth quarter and that was thanks to Lincoln not expecting a fake punt there.
