Interesting that Cale has moved to inside receivers coach! Mike is stripped of DB duties, but still calls plays. Kish stays to the dismay of 85% of Sooner fans!
I don't think it's a signal of any RB moves. My guess is that Riley has more receivers on the field, so it's quite a job for a single coach to take on all positions - especially for a newcomer. Stoops probably wants to ease Dennis Simmons in.Originally posted by coe8189:
and Kish is coaching ILB the spot that we needed the most help at. Also since Gundy is moving to the slot or inside wr position does that mean we will not be using the rb as much and will be putting them in the slot position. I could see Mixonand Ross playing in those position but Perine not so much.
BR....honestly...how hard was that to hold in?...almost like a deep beer burp?...Originally posted by BillyRay:
Wow...not sure if i can say it here cuz Carey is reporting in over in CC, but if it's true then get ready for some gut punch news on the OU coaching front....
edit.....On 2nd thought...you can see the pinned thread at the top of CC forum, the thread title is all you need to know....

Special teams wasn't much to write home about in 2014 with the exception of Ross at KR. Missed FGs, missed PATs, OSU punt return, etc. Not a good year overall for STs.Originally posted by JConXtsy:

I would also guess that Stoops wanted to promote Boulware. He's done a fantastic job for our special teams which have been pretty good the past two years under him. Remember how appalling special teams were the two years before him? I think Stoops wanted to move him up into the offense and give him more responsibility. We're probably also seeing a diminishing use of TEs, so he didn't want Boulware's job to shrink. RBs is a pretty easy job too. There's a reason NFL rookie RBs are the most likely to play of any position.
That probably frees up the other coaches, so they can focus on the finer details. Game of inches, right? Maybe we were an 8-5 team last year on the verge of 12-1 if those fine details had been combed over.
Now that both sides of the ball have been divided up into bite-size portions, it will be glaringly apparent which coaches aren't cutting it if the struggles continue. They won't have any leg to stand on if they use "overwhelming" as an excuse.
I think this is closest to reality - in this offense, there isn't going to be as much focus on the RBs as passing, despite the talent we have stockpiled at the position. I think they all realize Gundy is the best coach, now, on staff, and would be wasting his time having him coach a position that will not be used as much as in the past. Plus - with him moving to inside receivers he will learn more of the offense so he can eventually become the OC when Riley leaves, and if any receivers do run with the ball, it will be the inside guys on the Jet Sweep reverse they run.Originally posted by bcsoonerfan:
Just a guess, but maybe the running backs duties as a whole is going to be scaled back. Not saying we're not going to see a running back as much, but certainly not multiple back sets where if a play is changed there is more communication necessary.
With an increase in receivers there will be more of a requirement for communication.
