What would it take for OU to make the NIT? Can they get in if they finish the regular season 16-14?

Currently 7-9 (predicted outcome below that would give them a 16-14 record)

Jan 18 @ West Virginia LOSS

Jan 21 vs Iowa St. WIN

Jan 23 @ Texas WIN

Jan 28 vs Florida WIN

Jan 30 vs Oklahoma St. WIN

Feb 4 @ Texas Tech LOSS

Feb 8 vs West Virginia LOSS

Feb 11 @ Iowa St. WIN

Feb 14 vs Texas WIN

Feb 18 @ Oklahoma St. WIN

Feb 21 @ Baylor LOSS

Feb 25 vs Kansas St. WIN

Feb 27 @ Kansas LOSS

Mar 4 vs TCU WIN

You have at least three or four wins listed, that are a lot more likely to be losses. I don't think OU wins at Texas, Iowa State or OSU, and there are a half dozen other games that are very unlikely to all be wins. I don't believe we get four more conference wins. Hope I'm wrong, but this group hasn't shown much to be optimistic about.

Plaino, you still didn't answer my question. How many wins does it take to make the NIT?

The simple answer is, more than this team is capable of winning.I doubt you'll see any school with fewer than 18 regular season wins in the NIT. If we got really hot, and then made the conference tourney finals, maybe then. But that would be close to miraculous.

So if OU went 16-14 as I predict and wins at least one game in the Big XII tournament, you don't think that would be good enough to get into the NIT, considering how tough the Big XII is and knowing they were without Woodard for a stretch?

I think we would do well in the NIT.

I see less than 50% wins with these games remaining. Sooners are sitting at home come seasons end.

16-14 with one win in the tourney would mean a win over a bottom four team in the conference. That gets you nothing really. But if you think this team is getting to 17 wins, I think you have a crimson colored imagination.

How bout them Sooners? They just knocked off #7 West Virginia at West Virginia. I was expecting a loss, so that's an extra win I wasn't anticipating. :)

A lot of people have been trashing this team, but I see way too much talent and they are much better than their record indicates.

Fantastic win tonight. I was expecting a 20-30 point loss. Listened to some of it on the radio. Pretty funny listening to Toby talk about some of the no calls WV was getting away with. Early in the second half after a no call he said "the rules are just different here folks",

Some of you completely undersold the importance of Woodard's absence. He is their leader. Their guide.

The losing streak cost them any real shot at tourney bid, but this team, with a healthy Woodard, will be competitive and play a hand in the conference champ by who they upset.

Maybe you knew something that some of us didn't see. That was a really nice win, that few expected. I didn't get to see it, but am taping the reply on ESPN U overnight and can watch it Thursday. Woodard went nuts after halftime. Now that they seem to have found somebody to handle the ball effectively, he can play two where he's a lot more effective. And he's getting his shape back, apparently.

Good for them. When the NIT people go choosing somebody, a win over West Virginia will look nice on the resume`.

I was expecting OU to lose last night, mainly because it was at WV, but I've seen every game and we have been in all but one that I recall, leading sometimes by double digits even in several losses. It's not about talent, it's about consistency, due to their youth, and I've been saying that for awhile now.

Well, I'm not sure about that. I'm still shocked that they were able to handle the press. I haven't watched it yet. McGusty went off last night, and apparently he's been hurt, and is now capable of showing us what he can do. I think West Virginia took OU a little too lightly.

I still don't think this team is good enough inside defensively against good big men, but we'll see. Lattin can be a nice rim protector as a help defender, but he's not great head to head against a big man. I do think that they've figured out that he's really not much of an offensive player. Early on, they were running some offense through him, and it didn't produce much. So they're playing more like last season offensively. No back to the basket stuff, but some alley oop dunks.

James is a mess right now, but they beat a really good team with little help from him. And Woodard still looks like a guy who had the flu last week, and is just starting to get back in the flow. But whatever is messing with him, it wasn't the flu.

I'm still not optimistic about the NIT. But I am willing to concede that though small, it might be a possibility.

Wait til you see the game, you won't think WV took OU lightly then. WV was all over them, the entire game! However, OU's defense also came to play. As for the offense resembling last season's, I don't think they do at all. OU seems to be driving to the basket a lot more, thanks to Odoms and like I've said before, McNeace has been dominate posting up, a siight we haven't seen since Blake Griffin. McNeace is going to be a FORCE in the future. :) McGusty has just recently shown a nice 3 point shot, but I agree, James has been a mess. He was great last season so hopefully it's just the sophomore slump.
