by an analytics firm hired by the Big 12.
The firm says that OU has a 4-5% better chance at making the playoffs by adding two teams, playing one less conference game and holding a conference championship game.
Insiders say that the league is split in two on this issue.
My opinion is that unless two good teams can be added the Big 12 should stay at ten teams. Outside of BYU, none of the teams that have been mentioned appeal to me.

Would love to know what variables used and how much money wasted to come up with number.

Seems rediculous they can give that percentage not knowing which teams are added or how divisions are split. Did they take into account how strong a program Texas has been last 5 yrs versus could be in next 5 years? Variable strength of non conference schedule?

The fact is the day before the conference championship games in 2014-2015 the big XII had better than 70% of making playoffs with Baylor or TCU. None of the games went the big XII way but winning a 4 team parlay of Fsu, Osu, Oregon and bama was much less likely and would have paid you well.

Last season OU was a lock without the danger of a conference championship game upset.

In the history of big XII championshipstyle more teams were knocked out than really helped.

BYU will never be allowed in the conference. If there wasn't a major deal breaker, they'd already be in the conference. It will not happen. I agree that BYU would have merit. But they will never play on Sunday. And the tv partners will never let them in.

I agree. I'm not sure BYU would be that great of an addition, but as CT posted, they are the only school that has been mentioned by serious sources that it appeals to me as well. I just feel its going to be very difficult to add two schools that will strengthen the conference absence of money.

Adding a few ACC teams would be OK. Miami, Fl State????

But what are the chances of getting either school? I remember some discussion about Florida State before we added West Virginia but nothing since. I personally would like Miami because I hate those bastards and would like having the chance of kicking their butts more often. From what I've heard, Miami doesn't have much support, so does that mean even with a major TV market that would be a negative?

BYU played a basketball game last Christmas Day vs Northern Iowa.
Maybe God is a basketball fan.

Isn't basketball the "Sunday" sport that concerns BYU.....or the minor sports perhaps....because when do NCAA football games play on a Sunday? I guess I've never understood that argument with regards to BYU. They have been a member of conferences in the past. Sounds like there is something more than the Sunday issue.

I'm not a big fan of BYU coming in anyways. They are a pretty good program sports wise, but they really don't bring much to the conference as a whole. I think the best move would be to go east, not west.

If that 5% number is accurate, I don't think it's worth it. If the odds were 20% or something like that, then it probably would be.

Cincinnati & Houston targeted for expansion. Reported tonight on KJRH that Big XII has contacted AAC about potentional expansion candidates.

If we expand our best and realistic options should be Cincinnati and Central Florida. Imagine having exposure and being able to recruit in Texas, Ohio, and Florida? Three of the top states in the Nation!

Houston would be the worst choice. Why legitimize their program? They are a minor school despite a great season last year. We let minor school TCU into the B12 and now they are a legit B12 school. Arguably they have been better than us in the past 3-5 years (except 2016).

I am not sure that the Big 12 will last much longer, regardless of its size.
But adding some name recognition teams would really help its survival.

I can't speak to Cincinnati, but allowing Houston into the Big 12 would NOT legitimize their program. UH has had a great past history that went idle for many, many years. Prior to joining the SWC, UH was independent and took on quite a few of the big boys and did well. When they joined the SWC, they won the Championship 3 of their first four years. They finished in the Top 10 last season as well. They also would add a huge TV market but more importantly, OU gets a game in Houston which has a huge recruiting base. With A&M moving to the SEC, veiwership out of Houston has moved with it.

OU just needs to leave the Big 12 period

C'mon over!
