Just for grins and giggles, I punched up Laurel and Hardy on youtube.

Scrolling down I found a gem.
A colorized version of the 28 minute feature, 'The Music Box'.

I've seen it a hundred times and it still has legs, especially in color, which I didn't know had been done.
Those guys were genius.
The way Oliver Hardy would look right into the camera when Stanley did something ignorant, which was a lot.

Check it out. Timeless humor.

(incidentally, it was filmed in what was a fashionable part of LA in 1932...now it's a drug ravaged war zone)

Yeah, that's a good one. My favorite Hal Roach character / actor in those films was "Fin" played by James Finlayson. He is where Homer Simpson gets "doe!" from.

One of my favorites is "Sons of the Desert". A great example on how to get in trouble with the wives. Everything Hal Roach produced was solid gold. The later big-studio full length stuff... not so much.

Yep, that was in the bad old days when you trusted people to compensate you fairly for your work, without specifics as to the enormous moneys made from rebroadcast on TV, for example.
What I mean is Laurel and Hardy got paid at the conclusion of filming a 'short', as they called them, but they got zero residuals and they both died of very modest means as I understand it.

I don't know who got them, but I suspect Hal Roach did pretty well over the years. Doh!

Oh man, I just watched one that I'd never seen before. Also colorized and made in 1932.
Me thinks one of the writers had a hand in the cannabis jar.

The name of it was 'Laughing Gravy', the name of their dog in the episode.

Oh yeah, one more thing...cool line from the short, "Twas ever thus".

I enjoyed watching Laughing Gravy (for 15-20 minutes or so) but had to stop when they started in with the animal cruelty stuff. Amazing the things they used to do to make a buck...
