I know most of us appreciate our military for numerous reasons but I just wanted to share a quick reason why I am in awe with our Armed Forces. My Father passed away more than a year ago and let's just say I have been stuck in the sad gear for a while and just now can talk about his death. My Dad was a career military guy serving for 33 years in the Army and retiring as a Sergeant Major. Later went on to college and graduated with a 4.0. He was a great Dad and a big Sooner fan. Two tours of Korea and two tours of nam. He experienced a fall at 84 and was in coma for 4 days before he passed in Lawton. When he passed away, the family was at his side and we all said our goodbyes. Nobody really tells you what to do at this point so I just stayed in the room with him figuring the hospital would just take him away and I would leave, I just couldn't leave him alone. Couple of hours passed by and still nobody came. Suddenly I heard a knock on the door and in walked in a Private First Class and he asked "is that the Sergeant Major?" I said yes. He then explained he was here to take care of my Father. I asked what does that mean? He said that he would escort him to the funeral home and "get him ready". That night the Private text me that he ordered his dress blues and would get him ready tomorrow. He stayed with him that night at the funeral home and ironed his flag. Next day I got a text the he had him dressed and "he was looking sharp". They gave my Father a full military funeral and covered all of the cost. 21 gun salute, played taps, and presented the flag to my Mother. My Dad is buried at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. I was never more proud of our country.
