Okay, after raising (so far) two great kids,I have an issue that I'd like to have some input from a variety of people.
My daughter, now almost 22, after living in Tulsa all her life, finished her final HS year in a small town outside of Rome. After 3 years in a small town in England, she graduated from college with honors in English Lit. one day after turning 21. She's basically had the past year relaxing, regrouping, and working with me in our small business.
After about 6 months of searching and soul searching, she's announced that she would like to go to NYC and be an intern at a designer fashion company for little/no pay. She does have about 20K of her own money in savings, yet this plan is ripe with things that can go wrong and I don't know how to intellectually stop or redirect her.
Her savings is a start, yet in NYC, it won't last as long as she thinks. The prime concern (as always), of course,
is her safety. She has good will power and can generally 'sniff out' bad intentions, yet my concern is that she can easily be overwhelmed. She can emotionally protect herself, yet not necessarily physically.
And the only person that she knows is a good friend of someone that she was friends with in Italy 4 years ago.
Other options that she's looked at are editing and blogging about nutritional health, yet one is very hard to get into, (and again requires NYC), and the other would take a long time to come close to be able to make a living
doing so.
She does a great job in our business, which again involves fashion, and I'm ready to retire and give it to someone, yet she's ready to leave Tulsa, (I don't really blame her yet would prefer a safer destination).
I could use some thoughtful help here. Thanks!
