We're looking at a beautiful house (4,000 sf) that is pretty close to an oil well and two storage tanks in back. It's a one-acre lot and the well/tanks are maybe another acre away, in a field, with no trees or anything to block the view except a 6-foot wood fence around the well/tanks (which doesn't block it at all).
Can any of you oil guys tell me: Is this a bad decision to buy at $445K so close? The other 19 houses in the development are all more expensive (up to $750K) but don't have the well behind them.
Is it dangerous to be this close to a well/tanks? Noisy? Smelly? It's accessed via a gravel road from another direction. I've never seen it operating, but it surely is active because it looks in good shape and area is clean. I could plant some tall trees to hide it somewhat, but it's the first thing you notice as you drive up to the house.
I've seen other helpful advice from oil guys/property owners in similar situations on this board and would appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.
