Bama and USC were declared the champs that year - Bama in the AP, USC in the Coaches poll - and we were the odd man out despite avenging our only loss against Nebraska in the Orange Bowl.
-We had a 3 point loss at #4 Nebraska
-USC had a 13 point loss at unranked Arizona State
-Bama had a 10 point loss to #7 USC at home
The worst part about our loss to Nebraska was that Billy Sims was about to score, but fumbled inside the 10 IIRC, and Neb ran out the clock to win the game.
So for the older guys on the board that remember the entire '78 season and saw how good the aforementioned 3 teams were - removing the Crimson-colored glasses: Were the final rankings fair, or did OU get screwed?
