I am fifty, I was raised in the country, at the age of 14 I had my first hay truck. When in HS we used to go to morning two-a-days then go hall 1000 bales of hay before evening practice. When I went to college it was 1983, there was a heat wave that came through lasted for 11 days. It would be 103 and we practiced on turf so the wet ball was swinging 138. They weighed us daily worried about us losing to much fluid. In the 11 days of two-a-days I went from 242 to 258. I would get on the scales and the trainers would look at me like what heck is the deal. I told them hey I am used to being out in the heat all day, here we practice in the mornings when it is cool then go watch movies ( film) in air conditioning. Only have to be out in the heat maybe 4 hrs and we get to eat all we want.
My country raising came to bite me in the rear though. At our high school we wore BK helmets with the leather insides, the kind you put under the water faucet and soak to where the would be flexible and not cut you when you put them on. We had been in practice for about 4 days. I was hitting these guys hard, so hard it was giving me concussions. I finally went to the trainer and told him I do not think this helmet is right. He took it looked at it and said to me, you do know that your are supposed to put air in the bladders. Hell I was out there hitting people thinking they were the toughest group of guys I had ever seen because it was hurting me. I basically only had a shell that I was hitting them with.
