Saw it last night, and thought it was terrific. It runs almost two hours, but I thought it was about 30 minutes long, it was so good. An article I read earlier said it had lost a lot of pizazz, but I didn't find that to be true at all. The language, as usual, was filthy but funny and semi-Shakespearean in an old-west kind of way, especially with many of the characters being illiterates. The villains were still villainous, the good guys still good but short of temper and meaner than hell when provoked (e.g., the marshal). The whores remained whorish but basically good of heart, although it's difficult to get past the fact that most of the men never bathed and the whores screwed one after another as they rode into town. VD HAD to have been rampant, but the movie (and the series) glossed over that, thank God. Calamity Jane was as drunk and lezzy as ever and Al Swearengen, as usual, stole the show, even though he is sick throughout.

However, I did think the movie left quite a lot of plot line open and not completely resolved for a "finale." Maybe they are thinking the writer, David Milch, has enough left in him to do a true wrap-up. He has Alzheimer's that is progressing rapidly and might not have what it takes for another run at good old "Deadwood." Definitely worth your time if you're a fan.
