Some of you know that my hometown is Neosho, Mo, the home of the mighty Wildcats. I drive my RV up there about every 90 days so that I can stay in touch with old class mates and other friends. Buster and I always park at the local Walmart. My Walmart experiences are fodder for several new yarns. We've observed lesbian love making and, on several occasions, have seen mullet wearing dudes and really rough looking women, screwing in the backseats of 40 year old cars. They get to rocking and bouncing those old cars around that it makes Buster start barking and growling. I'm sure he thinks that it's some kind of dog eating beast. Without exception, their orgasms are cataclysmic. On one occasion, one of the ol boys actually thru back his head and howled. Fellas, I can't make this stuff up. It happened.

Well back to my story. Those familiar with Neosho know that it's a quaint, beautiful little town that has many hills and springs. During my last trip to my home town, I drove down to the town square and parked my pickem up truck. I sat there for a moment just looking and remembering. As kid, I've driven around that square uncountable times. It takes me back.

I get out of my truck stroll over to Sam's Cellar and walk down the steps, stop and look around. When I'm in town, I always go to Sam's for pizza and beer. I finish up and get back up those damn steps and stand on the sidewalk, deciding on my next move. Two blocks from the square is an amazing city park, called The Big Spring Park. It's about 130 yards deep and maybe 50 yards wide , surrounded on 3 sides by hills and bluffs (think horse shoe shape). This park holds special memories :D, so I decide to hoof it on down there.

I get there (wishing I'd bought a few cans of cold suds with me, sigh). The west side is my favorite. It's the tallest, with rock bluffs and large boulders. It has a meandering path that works its way around the rocks and bluffs and finds quiet, private places. My favorite spot is a large stone that has flat top (about 10 ft square). I climb up on top and look out over the park. The elevation gives me an amazing look at the park and other land marks. My mind is racing wild with memories of distant times of yesteryear. When time moved slow and the world was yet to be conquered. I rolled up my hoodie as a pillow, laid down on an old familiar place, and gazed up thru the limbs and watched the clouds sailing across the blue skies of the past.

I don't know, maybe I dozed off, but suddenly it was about the middle of May (Thu, I think) in 1955. I was in the 6th grade at the Intermediate School. It was about a week and a half to summer vacation and I was going stupid with impatience to be out of school. The afternoon before, a good buddy, Scottie and I , decided to cut afternoon wood shop and do a little early celebrating. Wood shop was in a separate building and old Mr Latimer was pretty easy to work around.

As we were walking to the shop, Scottie started drifting one way and I the other. The other fellas knew what we were up too, so they started goosing each other and generally playing grab ass, as a distraction for ol Scottie an me. Scottie was headed to the Rexall Drug store to get two large vanilla phosphates (our favorite drink at the time) and I headed for the donut shop to get a bag of hot glazed dog nuts. I ended up smoozing Mr Adams and he threw in 2 free ones, giving us 14 of those amazing, melt in your mouth, delights.

Our plan was to meet at Big Spring Park on the big flat rock slab. At that time it was hidden from public view by all the brush, so we had no fear of getting caught. I got there first and my podnah was about 5 min behind me. Well, we sat down and tore open that dog nut sack and demolished those heavenly treats. No wonder I've got a big ass today. Anyway, we lay back on that wonderful slab started talking about the girls and the coming summer vacation.

Scottie had it bad for a gal named Sally. He didn't stand a chance. I knew this but I wasn't about to break the news to my friend. He didn't know how to be cool with the chicks. Hells bells, she didn't even know he existed. Me, I was putting my "A" moves on sweet lil Sharon. She was still trying to figure me out. She was growing interested but playing it coy. It didn't matter, because 2 weeks later I changed direction and discovered Joan and poor ol Sharon lost out.

We talked about going into Jr High next fall and how different that'd be. How the women would be older and more mature. We licked our chops in anticipation. We lay there covering many more important topics, all the while gazing up thru the limbs at the never ending clouds. Finally Scottie had to leave. He had a paper route to run. I told him that I was gonna stay a little longer. As I lay there my mind thought about lofty things. At least lofty for a 6th grader.

I had no idea how important that afternoon was to me. That it created a memory for me that I'll cherish my whole life. My life is chock full of yesterdays memories and there is no doubt that many wonderful new memories are in my future. You see, that's the way I'm made.

I must have drifted off. Suddenly my eyes flew open and as I lay there, 2016 quietly re-entered my life.
