Only guy from OU projected in the 1st round never played a down

You don't traditionally have seasons like last year when you have a boatload of first rounders on the squad.

Eh, I don't know. How many 1st rounders did we have from the 2000 season? We had 1 3rd rounder and 1 6th rounder and that was it.

In the 2009 season when we went 8 and 5 we had 4 first rounders, one of which was the top over all pick and two more being picks 3 and 4. So 1, 3 and 4 picks with the same record we had last year.

That's a more than a little deceiving stat though. The #1 pick played a half against BYU, the whole game against Baylor, & had a season ender against the 'horns. That's it. McCoy was the rock of a top 10 defense (in spite of the offensive issues), so no problem there. Williams was pretty much the only consistent thing on the OL that year. I mean, he had to start at center against Stanford for pete's sake ( the 4th player to snap the ball that year). I, in my 30+ years of watching CFB, can't recall another position group that got blasted by injuries in a year the way the '09 OL did.

Oh, & don't forget, OU had another 1st round pick in that draft named Gresham. Never played a down for OU in '09.

I suspect we'll have several first rounders who played for us last season. They just aren't finished yet with their college careers.

I've always appreciated crafty numbers massaging!

Of course you are right, I was just illustrating that a seasons outcome doesn't necessarily point to a lack of talent.

I was mainly lamenting the fact that the only projected early pick never even played for the team.

I think you can point to that 2000 squad as a great coaching job in so far as firing up and motivating a team to exceed expectations. It still amazes me that that group did what they did.
