For most of this century, you could count on the Sooners for two things: winning at a high clip and a high-powered offense. Well, Brent Venables has had two losing seasons in three years as Oklahoma’s coach, so the winning hasn’t come often enough during his tenure. And the Sooners ranked 97th in scoring offense (24 points per game) last season.

Oklahoma has added some offensive linemen through the portal after the position group struggled mightily in 2024. It has placed bets on productive receivers from the FCS level (Keontez Lewis from Southern Illinois and JaVonnie Gibson from UAPB) and Isaiah Sategna from Arkansas.

Year one you can all but throw out, an offensive genius and future heisman trophy winner left. We were competitive-ish in every game Dillon Gabriel played fully.

Year 2- offense played up to standard. Caused the loss of OC and lost starting QB

Year 3- only real excuse was top 5 hardest schedule in SEC. Preseason rankings: QB- C, RB- B+, WR A+, OL- C, TE- C. Postseason: QB- D, RB-D, WR- D, OL- D, TE- N/A.

Not saying year 4 will be better but we can all agree our defense has played WAY better; why we hired BV

I do hope OU gets the WSU TE with hype in the Spring portal along with paying big bucks for a true proven big program WR.

In case you missed it:
Year-3 had more than just the toughest schedule to deal with.
A rebuilt offensive line proved to be very poor.
The WR corps was decimated by injuries.
Arnold played poorly, partly due to the OL.
Seth Littrell was a bust as the offensive coordinator.
