There’s no way to sugar coat it, that was a lousy game for OU. No momentum, weird calls, and the defense wearing down late. It all goes hand in hand when you have a piss poor game on one side of the ball, eventually the other side falls apart.
As we all could see it was a bad game for Williams and the rest of the offense. Klatt pointed out several times that OU was taking deep shots too often on first down instead of lining up and running at Baylor. I think that falls on Riley for not having the ability to adjust with Williams in the game.
I did not have a problem with the 2 series benching, although I think it should have happened on the previous series. And because Spencer couldn’t get the offense started (thanks in part to a missed PI) I get why you go back to Williams. I haven’t heard what Riley had to say about it and personally I don’t care, I think it was the right decision but just too little too late. And Williams responded well to coming back in.
The defense got gassed in the end and got beat on the same play over and over in the 2nd half. Great play calling by Baylor, but if Winfrey isn’t going to produce when he’s in there then I think you’ve got to get him out of there. I don’t feel like anyone got exposed in the passing game aside from a play or two, one of which was Key on the Touchdown pass. The safeties did get very exposed in the run game. I know broiles and fields are punching bags, but they got ran over, through and around, and it’s time for Grinch to put better athletes on the field.
As for looking ahead, Iowa state is getting beat by tech, go figure. And I fully expect OSU and Baylor to lose one more game each. So who’s going to be standing in the way? For a playoff matchup to happen, OU needs some chaos to occur now. And then they would likely draw Georgia. I can already tell that most fans on here want OU to miss the playoff altogether at this point.
