For the last hour I've been studying every film I could find on Austin Kendall.
Got to say, this guy is talented.
Now, I know, it's HS, they don't play as fast...nevertheless.

No really, first he's tall, rangy, 6 foot 2, yet he has honed his improvisational skills in that when no one is open he'll take off like a jack rabbit for the 1st down marker. (sound familiar?)
Accuracy, oh my.
He's gifted like Sam, he can loft a soft arc with touch as well as throwing laser beams with massive velocity right into the sweet spot of the receiver. (with stunningly quick release)

It's safe to say, and I'm assuming Cale landed this guy, whoever got him did really good.

It's fun being a Sooner.:D

I thought Riley was the one whom started recruiting Kendall when he was at his last gig, and continued to recruit him to come to OU. I'm just glad the kid is gonna be on campus in time to go through spring drills and through the summer. He is gonna be the backup and he needs all the time on campus he can get.

Oh, I don't know, I just threw Cale out there to finish the post.
In all likelihood it was coach Riley.

should be interesting in 2017, with both Kendall and Murray. In a perfect world Kendall would redshirt next season, Murray play for 2 years and then Kendall for 2 years, then Robinson(2017) and either Mayden or Thompson (2018)........

Exactly, I suppose the main thrust of the OP is that we've got a gamer in the bullpen should the need arise.
I too would like him to redshirt just for the extra eligibility on the back end of his tenure.

It was a Riley recruit all the way. I think it was pretty much a package deal and most likely was even discussed during the Stoops/Riley interview.

Stoop: Tell me about your offense & who you think you have that can run it?

Riley: Mayfield now and I've been recruiting this great kid named Kendall that will be ready to replace him.

Stoops: Good to hear. You're hired. Call him up.

I'm not so worried about Kendall being an adequate back up as a true freshman. Being here this spring is really going to help. But the number three guy ... that's pretty uncertain.

I'm really wondering about that too. You think Bob and Riley will resort to plugging in a walk-on guy, or you think they would even give a kid like Dalton Wood a look or reps to see if he is a viable option going forward??

Not to sound negative but Cody Thomas looked the part as well. Big time football and baseball player only to struggle mightily.

I'm just taking the wait and see approach is my point. Maybe he will be a big time player from the start, who knows

I think that Hardy will end up being number three. Doubt he'd throw it much, but he can definitely run zone read.

After what happened to Baylor this year, I now understand the wisdom of Bill Snyder's comment that he always wanted 5 QBs on scholarship. Even if Kendall is as good as Stidham, if disaster strikes who else is there?

Why is noone talking about McGinnis, is it because he was a preferred walk-on. The kid can play, he will be the back up next fall, at worse the number 3. Mayfield was a walk on, walk ons can play just as well as the guys who get the full ride.

Sometimes they can play better....A LOT better. Hellooooo Mayfield, Goooodbye Knight.

Not trying to rain on your parade, but Landry's HS video was the best QB video I'd seen in many, many years. Someone mentioned Murray, just based on what I've read, he's a run first/pass second QB. If true, that needs to change.

True dat...at least four

I donned my court jester outfit and wrote that out for everyones edification.

"It all culminated last season where McGinnis was a huge reason Heritage Hall claimed another state championship.

His numbers don’t take a backseat to anybody. He rushed for 1,366 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also completed 113 of 202 passes for 1,923 yards with 22 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Defensively, he added 69 tackles and 10 interceptions.

McGinnis has natural size at 6-foot-3 and around 200 pounds. He has camped at OU before, but he never did the usual regional or national recruiting camps to get himself out there more.

It was the same story in soccer. McGinnis was a natural for the Chargers, but he never did the summer traveling circuit and never got his name out there. Instead he was doing things like mission trips to Nicaragua."

He turned down OSU and Tulsa, was headed to Yale till he only scored a 27 on his ACT. This kid is smart and wants to be a Sooner, think that drive will put him as the #1 backup after spring ball. One of his best moments as a football player is completing passes to Sterling Shephard in high school. Shep a senior and McGinnis was a freshman

Right now the QB depth is and should be a big concern.
That concern won't be removed until or if someone steps up in spring and August drills and solidifies his place as Mayfield's backup.
I don't have a favorite because there's no way to determine who...or if...OU will have a dependable backup.

If Baker Mayfield should be out an extended period in 2016, I'd be plenty worried. We would be in the same position that Baylor found itself in 2015. No percentages in true freshmen qbs.

Very, very true. OUr experience with Freshman QBs, as is the case a high percentage of the time, will pretty much rule out any shot at an NC. Even Sammy had his challenges as a Freshman. We need a healthy JFW...and the odds of that happening have been lowered dramatically since the NC game against Clemson.

I agree big time. Starting a Frshman will have growing pains & periods and is why many believe that OU got by Baylor, TCU & OSU with 3 back up QBs in a row. I'm not complaining in the least, but I'd rather our defense face a Frsh QB than the opposing defenses face our Frsh QB.

FYI, Mayden will never get an offer since his big bro went to BAMA. I don't see him in any future plans for OU fball. Thompson maybe. WS
