First of all, let me say I think we definitely make the playoffs ... in position 4. But we had no help whatsoever yesterday:
1) We needed Clemson to lose because they are the only team that might be able to beat us. They might have lost but for that bad call ... their defense was back on its heels and NC was going up and down the field on them at the end. I think NC would have won the game with a fair call on the kick and their recovery at the 40.
2) We needed Mich State to lose. I think they will pass us in the final four because they have beaten two highly ranked, unbeaten teams (tOSU and Iowa), plus they beat Oregon earlier if I recall correctly. Like Clemson, they lucked out, too, with that play in the end zone, the ball bouncing all over the place and into their arms. (Now wondering if that happened in THAT game. I watched so much football yesterday that the games are blending together.)
3) We needed Baylor to win, but the crappy Bongwhorns beat them because they were playing with receivers and running backs at quarterback. That "lessens" our win over a previously highly ranked team.
4) We needed Bama to lose--though that was doubtful--or at least struggle against the Gators. We might have passed them if the score had been close, but the Florida offense is totally nonexistent. We can beat Bama, but it will be more difficult if we face them in the first game because they will have a month to prepare for us.
5) We needed Stanford to lose. Now there will be calls to have them replace us because they won a conference playoff, which we didn't have, and beat Notre Dame. It won't happen, but I've heard that idea supported on ESPIN already today.
Now we will wind up playing Clemson in Miami, whereas we might have gotten Bama in Dallas. Sucks.
Having said all that, I still think the Sooners will be national champs.
