I blame all parties equally for what happened yesterday. I also celebrate any win bc I remember how quickly a team can become 3 wins/season. First I think that the coaches and players fell into the same trap that most of us did where you believe talent will just overwhelm this opponent. We did only very basic assignment sound defense. This is fine if you win every individual battle but it's not attackkng and doesn't set you up to overwhelm anyone. I think we worked on army's style but didn't want to put in extensive different concepts for one game. Knowing we would never need it again and thinking we would just out talent them playing basic assignment defense. With hour limitations, it's not completely unreasonable to think this was good philosophy going into the game. The offense, on occasion, was impatient bc of not having the ball and went for too much. I also think it was out of arrogance that we ran it back into the middle on third aand 4th down at the goal line. They Just couldn't believe there was any way we don't shove these outmanned guys into the end zone. Coaching in the time where a few teams still ran triple option but most did not, I can tell you 1 week of prep is difficult and you are faced with changing everything you do or really going basic assignment fb which is easy on paper but a set up not to be aggressive. Think we don't know much about ourselves still... kind of like last year when we thought we were awesome on d after handling tOSU. I hope it goes the right way. I don't know, but I submit neither do any of you. This is our team until the next off season... support it. Boomer Sooner
