NIL frustrations

Unfortunately NIL is turning into exactly what I was hoping it wouldn’t turn into. I have many gripes about the current state of NIL but here are just a couple:

One: NIL has opened up doors that should never have been opened. I have no problem with letting *successful, and proven* college athletes benefit from the attention they have earned. Say for example, Lamar Jackson. It’s safe to say Louisville football most definitely saw an uptick in: ticket sales, jersey sales, TV viewership for their games, etc. These are real tangible items that you can point to that prove his value. Now, obviously the school benefits from these things and they cannot pay the athlete, however, if a school (boosters, coaches) helps assist in brokering a lucrative NIL deal for someone like Lamar Jackson, that seems very reasonable. Additionally, more than likely, having Lamar Jackson endorse a product/company is a mutually beneficial exchange of services as he will reach many people due to his on the field success. However, instead of this, we have schools like Texas and Texas A&M brokering deals with HIGH SCHOOL kids, some of whom will never play one down of college football.

This leads to problem number two: This is just a “fast pass” to becoming an elite CFB program. Luckily for OU, we have a name and logo that can withstand this bullshit. But imagine being a program like Ok state, Iowa st, Wisconsin, Utah, TCU, etc who have spent DECADES building a program the “right way” (for the most part) only to have NIL implemented and get fvcking immediately money whipped to hell by a bunch of fvcking delusional weirdos in college station.

Of course, we knew this was coming: if you give someone an inch they will take a mile. I just hope that somehow NIL gets capped before it gets too wildly out of hand. Sorry, this whole post is obviously long winded but fvcking Aggies and delusional dipshits like Billy Liucci acting like their recruiting success is based on anything but monetary asshatery is just beyond foolish and frustrating as hell.
