On the future of OU Athletics:
With a lot of speculation by some fans that Joe C needs to retire it’s time to question another narrative: that Zak Selmon is the AD “in-waiting.” This seems to me a perilous path to trod ! This, again, seems to be the same incestous refrain of “Sooner family” as the best choice in lieu of a detailed search that culminates with hiring the best AD to manage a large athletic corporation. The “Selmon brothers” earned well-deserved statues. The name is royalty at OU. But how does translate to a line of succession from Joe C to ZS? If ZS is given the job primarily based on this lineage it will be a massive mistake. Only a thorough search with no credit given for family known or preferences of Joe C is acceptable. Given the stature of the position and the formidable task at hand, it seems unlikely a brief tenure as AD at Mississippi State is the proper prerequisite for this job. Besides that, what fantastic things have gone on at Starkville in athletics ? Ask this: Would Ohio State, Texas, Alabama or Michigan hire Selmon as their AD based on his record and credentials ?
