Know some are concerned with the state of OUs recruiting right now so I wanted to offer my thoughts.
1. Kids are taking things slow with us because of the hugely disappointing year last year and staff changes. Camron Williams DM me this weekend (completely out of the blue as he has never even so much as favorited 1 of my tweets) and during our exchange he said he was looking forward to seeing how OU does this year. These kids are very interested in OU but they just want to be sure. Bottom line: the only thing that will fix this is success and we will have our chance soon.
2. We have some big time recruits who are VERY interested in OU. Devah Whaley, Parker Boudreaux, Chris Daniels, Caleb Kelly, etc. Our staff had put us in a VERY good position with these studs and we are going to land our fair share before all is said and done.
3. We already have some damn good commits. The most important position for us to recruit this year is undoubtedly QB and we have a VERY good one committed. The only other position where we need to add bodies is LB and we are all over a bunch of good ones.
4. The success we have had the past few years has made for an intimidating depth chart that is going to scare some (ie. Diesch) off. This is what I like to call a "high class problem."
5. The new coaches are tearing it up out there. These guys are night and day from their predecessors and their efforts will soon start paying off with impressive commitments. Does anyone doubt that Kerry Cooks is going to land some damn good DBs? I sure as hell don't.
We have recruited very well the past few years and now we have the kind of staff that is GOING to make the best of this talent. The rest is going to take care of itself so we just gotta be patient and have faith. Boomer Sooner!
