my recently neutered dog

I had my great Pyrenees nikita mix dog neutered on Monday. He is 10 months old and the vet told me it would take at least 30 days for him to calm the hell down. I was just curious if anyone on here has actually gone through this process and if it actually calmed their dog down? I hope it does cause this one is destroying my backyard and house. My fiance and two girls are the only reason he isn't dead yet.
