A few of you remembered this story I posted a few years ago... and wanted me to post it again. Considering my eyes are still full of tears after watching that presentation, I apologize for any typos here 😉...

But srsly - Baker's the GOAT. IDGAF if you disagree. You're just plain wrong.

Anyway... here's the story - and it's 100% true. It took place on the evening of September 9th, 2017. My dad and a few thousand Buckeye fans can attest to it's authenticity - even if they won't want to (just copy and pasted from the thread I created nearly 5 years ago - https://oklahoma.forums.rivals.com/...eras-didnt-see-from-our-qb-on-saturday.93656/):

As I posted about last week, my dad and I got to sit at the 50 yard line, about 14 rows behind the OU bench this past Saturday. This game was already going to be legendary for us. I've only been to about 5 or 6 OU games in my lifetime, and 3 of them were to Waco (that was all we could afford - both money and distance). But what my dad saw and quickly drew my attention to put this game on a whole other level for us - and hopefully you too now...

At the start of the 3rd quarter, right after Ohio State scored, and looked to begin taking control of the game, my dad looked down at our sideline for Baker. What we saw can only be described as... well... effing badass.

Baker was maybe 2 or 3 feet from the stands, with a cup of water in his hand, facing an incredibly loud, hateful, and insane group of Ohio State students in the stands. Those students were doing their job - yelling, pointing, taunting - ya now... going insane... but since Baker had the balls to stand their and face them, it made them even louder. But it wasn't just him standing there facing them that made this awesome...

He was staring at them.

Just staring.

Didn't say a word. Just sipped his water and stared.

It was a cold, bad-ass, "I'm about to destroy your hopes and dreams and drink the tears of my enemies" type of stare.

Then he did a thing. And we know this, because my dad and I were deeply entrenched in what we were witnessing.

He simply grabbed his helmet, stared at them again (he had to divert his eyes for only a moment to grab his helmet), and he uttered 2 words. We didn't hear them, but his lips were quite clear...

"Just watch."

Holy shitballs Batman.

You feel those chills yet?

SAVAGE.

Dead.

What the hell did we just witness? The legend of Baker effing Mayfield. We just witnessed exactly what makes Baker Baker. The dude was simply absorbing their hate. He was soaking it all in. He knew exactly what was about to happen, and needed that little bit of extra hate to sweeten the deal. Or maybe he needed it like we mere mortals need air and water. Either way - it fueled him. It's what's fueled him the past 2 years as well (duh)... but this moment was especially incredible. What makes it even cooler is I think Mayfield (and of course the rest of the team) was probably one of the few people in that stadium that still thought we were gonna win. I still had major doubts... I mean... who didn't? Ohio State kicked our asses last year. Our defense had very questionable depth at some key positions. Ohio State has perennially been a stronger 2nd half team under Meyer. Their D was deeper than ours (on paper... or so it seemed).

But for Baker to just simply stare silently into their souls and then utter only 2 words - wow. It was the stuff of legend. I'm still trying to determine if this was some weird dream that I had, or if Mayfield really was that much of a badass. But then I remember this is the same bruh who took ownership of Ohio Stadium that night (don't believe me? Just ask Siri)... so I know it was real.

What's even more badass? Immediately after he threw that TD pass, he went back to the EXACT same spot and started telling them - and he was much more animated this time - "YOU LIKE THAT SHIT?? JUST WATCH! We're about to go do it AGAIN!!!" And of course we did. Unreal.

I'm still amazed at what happened after that, but even more amazed because I know we just witnessed Baker - with that single moment - separate himself as arguably the greatest OU QB of all time. Legendary.

Fellas... we only have Baker as our QB for 13 more games. Soak it in. Enjoy the ride. He's as rare as they come. A Sooner LEGEND through and through. The dude owns a fricking stadium for crying out loud. Absorb every moment he gives us for the rest of the year. It's going to be epic. In fact... I think the most appropriate way to wrap up this TL;DR post is to simply invite you to...

Just watch.
