Talked to Jay Boulware for a while. He's. very happy with the production from his running backs and says he's looking forward to seeing these guys continue to separate as the lights come on.
--- SCOOPHD: Jay Boulware Post Practice---
* He was very happy with Rodney Anderson in the second scrimmage and said he's done a great job since he first got hit in the first scrimmage. Said he just keeps better and better every time they go out there.
* It sounds like Jay is leaning toward letting Seibert doing everything to start the season. His said his kickoffs and field goals have been better than thy have since he was a freshman. He said Reeves Mandschau has been really good but they are going to punt directional and that requires more experience.
* Jay still mum on returners. Lincoln talked about a few of those guys Saturday.
Baker Mayfield said that even though camp has broken, they are still treating practice like camp right now trying to get better every day on offense.
SCOOPHD: Monday Post Practice Notebook
* more talk about how well Jordan Smallwood played in the scrimmage Saturday. He was good.
* Baker said that treating the scrimmage like a game with pregame meetings, full locker room walk to field - he said all of that was good for the young guys and good for the veterans just to remind everyone of how close the season really is.
--- SCOOPHD: Baker Mayfield Post Practice Monday ---
* we didn't talk to Lincoln today, he's going to talk to media on Wednesday since we just talked Saturday.
* the team is not able to use their new practice fields so they are still having to practice on the rugby fields. It will probably be that way until after the Ohio State game. Sod just isn't ready to be played on yet.
*** Eddie here ... following thoughts frombpost practice ***
* Just a general sentiment that today and moreless the rest of 'camp' this week is about finding that right mentality & finding that sense of urgency to come out of the gate quickly. Baker Mayfield preached it. Jeff Mead backed that up. Mead noted he feels like that sense of urgency has been around since the start of camp at the beginning of the month.
Shocker but there will be no trophies handed out at the end of August because OU ended the season on a 10-game win streak.
* Jordan Smallwood will have a role in this offense and I'm sticking to that thought. Hate me for it but it will feel so good to be right.
* Smallwood -- being a senior-- spoke on the steps he has taken in a leadership role in the WR room. He's just a great kid. Easy to cheer for, etc.
* Jeff Mead spoke on learning more about his game. Redefining his game, if you will. Learning how to use his body more. Also praised the work of CB Jordan Thomas. Mead said he watches Odell Beckham, AJ Green & Dez Bryant when it comes to studying NFL guys.
* Spoke with Jeff Badet ... he won't have to worry about going to class as all of his grad work will be done online. He was quite proud of that factoid. Said he's really taken a step in the right direction as far as getting up to speed with OU's offense. Biggest difference? Simply terminology.
* All three WRs Mead, Badet & Smallwood gave rave reviews of frosh Ceedee Lamb. The hype is real here. How quickly can Lamb become a focal point of this offense? I'm just as interested in the answer to this as you the reader. There were superlatives being thrown around all evening when it comes to Lamb. Just know that.
* Mead went as far as saying he is glad he didn't come in the same WR class as Lamb.
* talking with Baker you just get the sense that he's ready to get this season going. In the same breathe you get the sense that they are really focusing on taking advantage of this final week of preparation. Starting slow out of the gate as an offense isn't an option if they want to meet their end goal. Just knowing how well Mayfield is respected in the OU lockerroom I have to think this a good situation to have.
* Your money quote on Ceedee Lamb via Jeff Badet:
"Man Ceedee is a playmaker. He's catching any ball that comes his way. I'm pretty sure he's caught the most balls out of the whole receiver room, I think. But yeah that's the guy that goes out there and makes plays. I like Ceedee a lot. Yes sir."
Jeffery Mead on Lamb:
"Talented. I'm glad that I wasn't a freshman when he got here. He should make a lot of plays for us as well."
* Mayfield joked Lincoln Riley has been spoiled with his new office.
* We will speak with Riley on Wednesday
