Guys, we've got a bunch of SCOOPHD (including some audio breakdown from me) but wanted to get some notes down for you all to read.
***The Bixby duo of Brendon Evers and Bryce Bray are going to be something to watch in the coming years. I think both are potentially Oklahoma caliber guys - though in the case of Bray there is a LONG way to go even if you forget that he didn't play much football last year due to injury.
Evers is a high motor guy that reminds me some of Kory Klein.
With Bray he is a good athlete who can move his feet but is still working on his technique and hand placement. As he gets better he has a chance to be a high quality prospect.
Another Spartan I liked was 2017 quarterback Tanner Griffin.
The young signal caller isn't the biggest guy on the planet but he throws a really nice ball, is really pretty with his release and footwork and is one of those guys that will only get better as he continues to grow and fill out.
***Of course the headliner of the camp is Southmoore's Brey Walker.
We've been talking about him since this same camp last year and really had been talking about him as a potential five-star down the road. But after watching some of Eddie's tape, when he saw Southmoore last week, and then again yesterday I was starting to think maybe we needed to be a bit more patient with the hyperbole.
Well then I saw him today and he looked like the guy I had been expecting to see this spring. He was simply dominant using good knee bend, the ability to slide his feet and his impressive length to hem in one pass rusher after another. Not surprisingly his run blocking is still a work in progress but his arm length and feet help him get to the second level and turn defenders away from the play.
He still needs to work on that initial punch and plenty more but today was a big step in the right direction for him.
***A guy that shocked me with his work today was Lawton MacArthur's T.J. Fiailoa who looked so quick and explosive - while working as a defensive lineman. Makes me wonder if he isn't a name you all should keep an eye on - really, really surprised me and only further cemented what a crazily deep year this is for offensive lineman in the state of Oklahoma.
***A guy that I really was impressed by today was Noah Jones of Southmoore. At times I've felt like he came up somewhat short of playing up to his physical gifts but man alive watching him today he was just wrecking shop on offenses - notably Edmond Santa Fe who just could not get him blocked. Jones is a guy that probably fits a 3-4 front best as a 4I type with his 6-4+ 265-pound frame. However, I've always contended he is a good enough athlete (his dad was a NCAA record holder as a sprinter at OU) that schools need to just be in on him and let the chips fall where they may.
***I mentioned it in the live thread but the return of 2017 linebacker B.J. Davis is potentially massive news for the Highlanders. He was a guy that I thought, along with Will Sunderland, was the best player at last year's camp. You can tell he isn't all the way back from having to sit out all of last year, after getting into off-field trouble, but he flashes the potential of that guy that I thought had a chance to be a four-star someday following last year's work.
Davis is a natural edge linebacker with great explosion up the field and the ability to change direction but, again, looked rusty at times with that change of direction but as he gets more and more time on the field that will clear up as he is a guy with worlds of potential.
***A guy that I'm just baffled by his lack of attention is Edmond Santa Fe's Darran Williams. I don't think he is an Oklahoma caliber back but some of the mid-majors that live in Oklahoma should be all over this guy. Williams is explosive and so much stronger than you'd expect when you see him. He had a huge year last year but could see a Michael Warren 2013 type season coming from him and surprising too many people who aren't aware of him.
Again more coming but those are some standout notes from the day...
