About to clinch a place in the national title match.

They play stroke play to determine the top 8 teams and then match play 5 on 5 for the national championship. They beat Baylor in the quarterfinals. In the semi's against Illinois, they've won two matches. One out of the three remaining sends them to the finals.

Looks like Oregon likely to be the opponent in the finals.

In the quarters, OU trailed Baylor in all five matches, but rallied to win it. Coach Hybl called it Sooner Magic.

It's Oregon. The best team, Vandy, didn't make it.

OU got a nice lead in the finals. Dalke had an off afternoon. But, at hole 11, everyone else was at +2 or +3. OU got the first point. Then, Oregon mounted a charge, and OU was down in two and only up by one in a third. Then, Illinois hit 16 and 17 and played like I play golf, in the trees and water. Dalke even almost made it back to square before they stopped counting because OU had won three.

  • The title match is on the golf channel tomorrow at 3 p.m. CDT. The matches work like Ryder Cup with two exceptions. There are only five matches. And each of the five matches is played to a conclusion; no ties. If the individual match is all square after 18, then they keep playing until that match has a winner.
If you want to watch a replay of the afternoon match, it is on the golf channel right now til midnight. There are two matches 5 on 5 going on at the same time. The other is Oregon and Vandy. Vanderbilt had the best score in medal play, so they are the number one seed, but Oregon is defending national champion and adding one of OSU's best golfers as a senior, so they are pretty tough.

I think if they played all the matches to conclusion, Dalke would have come back to win against Illinois' best golfer. He'd been down three into the back nine, but had cut it to down 1 when OU won their third point ending the team match. They didn't play it out. So while one remaining match was even, and the other Dalke was down a hole, they called the final score 3 1/2 to 1 1/2.

OU is playing well, though the pressure combined with a high wind and a tough course to make for some uneven play by all four teams.

Rylee Reinertson played very well today for the Sooners. He is from a small school in Nebraska and I was lucky enough to witness him play golf in high school at the state tournament. Good golfer and a great person. Let's win the whole thing tomorrow.

Everybody is on the back 9. Hale and McGreevy are 3 and 4 up, but not clinched yet.

Dalke was up 2, but lost 9 and 10 in the final match for AS.

Reinertson got back from 2 down to AS but id about to lose 1. Hirschman is down 2.

We looked vulnerable until Dalke won three straight holes to get his lead back. I think we had finally worked into a tie in the fourth match after trailing all day.

Hyble is a great coach, my youngest son met with him twice right after he came on board his first year. My son decided to go elsewhere...he kicks himself daily for not golfing at OU...Hyble as long as he is coach they will be in the hunt...he is tenacious you can feel it just talking to him.
