Mayfield=Colt McCoy with an attitude?

I saw his first game vs Westlake and he was always good and a leader for Lake Travis. He seems like a more charismatic McCoy, hopefully he can stay healthy.

That's probably the best post I have ever seen you make rkh. I know it's very early in Baker's career, but he did look a lot like Colt in the fourth quarter. It will be a wait and see for the rest of the year.

Baker Mayfield went from being a near zero factor to being one of the "gamiest" QB's in one game. Man did he show some moxy and leadership. Guess patience is needed when dealing with a full offense overhaul that Riley is doing...with a young OL. Glad to see Mayfield make a connection with Shep...that will be a great combination as we dive into the Big 12 play.

Yep, if we have a QB with some contagious charisma, that can't possibly be spun into a bad thing.

Go Baker!

The great thing about Applewhite was that I was concerned by how well he played as an underclassman. Then, Mack strutted in Chrissy Brown and the whole UT team chemistry dropped, leading to some major RRS victories for a few years!

That and Applewhite tore his ACL, I believe, and was never the same again. But it did give Mack the opening he needed to start Simms.

Applewhite could not run and inherited RW and a good OL from JM. When the heat was put on like KSU in 1999, the Big 12 title game, where McBride did not hold back and the beatdown vs OU in 2000, he crumbled like all the rest. UT fans like to point out the good and ignore the bad, like the aforementioned games, but remember the bowl comeback against Washington, well it was Major who dug the hole with the INTs. He was smart, but had a weak arm and no mobility and was nothing w/o a running game. Baker is far more like McCoy, but with charisma, IMO. Applewhite never blew any knee at UT and his stats are about the same as Simms'.

I beg to differ. Applewhite originally injured his knee in the Cotton Bowl against Arkansas in 1999, and then completely tore his ACL against Texas Tech the following year (they were 7-2 up until then).
