still a nice win and big day for Baker Mayfield. On a side note the OU guy I told you about who works with me at my part time job never showed up to work this past week...hasn't called in either...we are worried some disgruntled UT fan may have done him in...or he may have fallen in love with East Tennessee and just stayed there...nice win friends.

Maybe a little, but not much; Tulsa has a pretty salty offense and we turned it over on fumbles twice deep in the red zone to keep it mildly interesting. I don't think my heart rate elevated the entire game, even with all of their success offensively, mostly due to how well OUr guys were moving the ball. I think that by the end of the year, this will look like a pretty good win.

Hey Jakester, what a pleasant surprise.
Your OU buddy, he'll show up. He's just extending his celebration a little longer than the rest of us.

So, what's the story, y'all got bye today?
Western Carolina today...then Florida at the Swamp next week...the game next week will be a crossroads game for this staff. Fans are still down over the OU game...very down. We need to beat the Gators next week for sure.

I hear ya man.
Moral victories?
Pfft, that's the mating call of the self doubting, reclusive loser.

Your team at least needs to get over OU, if they haven't yet.
Y'all got some players, and Jones seems to have 'the fire'.

Good luck tonight and especially against the athlete footed Gators.
:)

No letdown at all. This is simply as good as it gets for OU.

Why so down on the team CTOkie? If not for the 1st fumble deep in the red zone when OU was up 31-3, it would've been 38-3 because Tulsa couldn't stop us. If OU would've gone up 38-3, does Tulsa march down the field and score their first TD? Maybe, maybe not, but they sure wouldn't have had the same mindset as they did after recovering the fumble. If OU stopped them from scoring, OU most likely would've scored again because they marched right down the field after Tulsa scored and, once again, fumbled deep in the red zone. Bottom line, if not for those two fumbles, the score could've easily been 45-3 and I seriously doubt Tulsa would've mentally been in the game anymore.

Can't analyze a game for what should have happened if such-and-such hadn't happened. Fact is, Tulsa took care of the ball better than OU and it's defense caused some turnovers. Can't just discredit those things and just say OU should have won by more if they hadn't happened.

By your rationale, should Alabama not be penalized for losing last night since they turned the ball over 5 times and Ole Miss didn't??

Or better yet, let's get OU to forfeit the Sugar Bowl win since OU scored a good number of points off Alabama turnovers.

No, all I'm saying is that "if" OU doesn't turn the ball over, the game would've been a blowout like it "should've" been. Any sane person could see OU was clearly better than Tulsa and I find it laughable that if not for the turnovers (btw, we dropped an INT ourselves), the lucky SQUIB kick that hit a player and the hail mary that clearly hit the ground, no one would be bashing OU, instead they would be praising them for a least a 66-17 outcome.

I think CTOkie got it right up above. We're good, but we've got big problems on the horizon.

You say this making a HUGE assumption that Tulsa would have found zero ways to score points if a few of their other scores hadn't happened. Fact is, regardless of what mistakes OU did or didn't make, Tulsa moved the ball pretty well on OU. Better to look at a dose of reality now, instead of a "fools gold" type score that gives a false sense of security that OUs defense is just fine if it were to play teams like Baylor, TCU or OSU next weekend.

I mean you are even making a massive assumption that OU had guaranteed TDs on those possessions they fumbled the ball. I don't judge a ball game as to what could have happened or what should have happened. I look at what DID happen.

Just like last season. You can make all kinds of reasoning and/or excuses for how OU could have won 11 games if they hadn't made certain mistakes in several games they lost. But that doesn't change the fact that OU went 8-5.

No question OU's turnovers helped Tulsa climb back into the game and I said that earlier. But OU has not played consistently well on defense in several years. Some of it may be a case of talent or coaching or playing in a wide open conference....it was last year for these three reasons.

One thing for sure is that it hurt not having Jordan Thomas yesterday. This is the 2nd time this year that he's missed playing time because of a "team matter". I wouldn't be surprised if he's gone for good, which would be a shame. But that's all on him. The backups on that side will get better with more reps in practice.

Another thing to remember is that sometimes opposing players make plays. Their receivers were good and their quarterback, in many cases, put the ball where only their 6'4" guy could catch it. Sure, we had some busts, but they also made some plays. It happens.

And once again, a Mike Stoops defense gets another record set, against them.

Some of the best teams in the history, of college football, have played in Norman and a mediocre Tulsa, breaks a 100 year old record. How many players and teams is it now, that have had a record breaking game, against Mike Stoops?
