My daughter graduated from OU and got a great paying job in Tulsa as a manager at a large Tulsa company. She was the youngest manager and one of the only women managers.
She tells me one night she is not happy doing what she is doing and her life long dream was fashion and I am dumbfounded. So I say ok follow your dream. She takes her savings and goes to Florence, Italy and attends a fast track program at a prestigious fashion school and graduates in 13 months. Lives by herself in a tiny phone booth apt. with a bathroom down the hall and bicycles 3 miles to school and works odd jobs so she can eat occasionally.
She comes home and says she is leaving for New York and all alone again with less money and finds an apt, in Brooklyn, New York with 3 total strangers who are 2 girls and 1 guy. She starts interning and works long hours and does part time jobs so she can eat again, because rent is so high in New York it takes about everything you have. She finally lands a receptionist job at Prada and yes there are really 2 receptionist's dressed in black just like in the movie. She comes early and stays late and does extra work for the managers there and finally gets a break and gets a product rep. job at Deisel . and starts her upward climb and moves to another job with a company out of Amsterdam as Manager of US operations. this all took about 7 or 8 years, but the main thing is by doing a job she loves she could endure all the pain, suffering, long hours, disappointments and follow her life long dream. It was no picnic, but she is happy and in the end, isn't that what all Dads want for their little girls.
