Here is the current AP top 25. Out of the list below how many teams would you bet the farm on that OU would beat?

For me it would only be 21,23,24 and 25. I think the OU D though could make Iowa look like an offensive juggernaught.

As frustrated as I was at jayhawk takin us to the limit yesterday, I ain't pullin my hair out with 4 games to go. Let the dominoes fall where they may. If the fishin down here wasn't so good right now I'd be a screamin cuss, but we're 8-0. I'm good. 😁

I'm thinking a reality check is coming real quick for the optimistic crowd. If we don't get our starters back at full speed our speed D will just be speedbump D.
I think a reality check is coming real quick for the optimistic crowd. Our quarterback will throw an interception if he underthrows a wide receiver running full speed. Our offense will end up making a turnover. (Sarcasm is use)

Remember the line from money ball?

"If he's a good hitter, then why doesn't he hit good?"

Similar question:

If this OU team aren't winners, then why do they keep winning?
I think the answer to your question is look at the teams we have played. Do any have a winning record? This was the weakest stretch of our season and we are continually under performing. There seems to be no improvement to regression. I understand the injuries but at some point Speed D was supposed to be rotation of players to get them seasoned.

Now our D-Line is sucking which was supposedly a strength. Redmond is always hurt so by now the backups should be able to hold their own. Our OLine has been suspect most of the year. We are not playing like a top 5 team regardless of our record and our competition, as underwhelming as they have been, have consistently pushed us. I think we have beaten the spread twice with non-community college teams and that was TCU and Texas.

Positives seem to be Caleb, Kennedy, and recently Hazelwood. Our tightends are relegated to blocking. If we lose Kennedy to injury we are done.

Just my perspective as a resident pessimist.

I said it early in the season and I still think it, we are going to get everybody's best shot in the Big 12 this season because we are leaving. texas has already said after a game a few weeks ago that they were hearing it from fans in stadiums they have played in so far and likely players too I would imagine.
Who knows when both are leaving so this may be some players and Coaches last chance at beating us. I fully expect the remaining teams to do the same.
That said it doesn't make up for the poor play on both sides of the ball but it does explain why some of these teams are going all out to knock us down a peg as a parting gift.
Just keep winning and get those guys back and as Riley said in his presser, if we could put together a complete game damn we will be a pretty good football team. I keep thinking they will turn the corner every week but so far they haven't but it doesn't mean they won't.
Gonna be patient and see what happens, tough stretch coming up and I would take a 1 point victory in each of them.

Riley and his team need not focus on the Kansas game or how close 7 of the 8 wins have been over lesser opposition or the team's slide in the polls this week.
It will be important to get the injured players back asap, but the players who are playing must get better now that we are in the home stretch. There can't be any looking back....it's now maintaining an undefeated season that matters, and I too will take 4 one-point wins to cap off the season. Nothing is wrong with "winning ugly" during an undefeated season.
The talent available and the million dollar coaching staff have no excuse to continue this current sloppy and unfocused level of play, as any knowledgeable fan knows.
The poor tackling and coverage by the secondary and poor pass rushing have to be fixed before meaningful talk can include a championship.
OU now is riding exclusively on the coat tails of a miracle working freshman quarterback. That's flirting with danger during the remainder of the season.
The greatest Oklahoma teams have historically had one game in which they narrowly avoided an upset loss and it's safe to say this 2021 team has surpassed that "quota" like no other Sooner team in history....with the likelihood of more bullet-dodging yet to come.
The Kansas game could....and should....be a good wake up call, as well as a lesson in respecting every opponent regardless of records and point spreads.

Glad to see you merely referred to yourself as “a” resident pessimist. The title of THE resident pessimist belongs to another. Give my regards to your master from the northeast, young Skywalker.
Not sure what issues you have with other posters but it's clear you are not tracking my posts. I was a defender of Grinch and co. up through the TCU game. Kansas ran the ball on us. Kansas sustained long drives on us. Our opponents thus far are 20 and 37. We have beaten exactly no one and had difficulty doing it. You make of that what you will. My OU Kool-Aid glass is no longer young, inexperienced, injured. It is just half empty. We shall see.

Good post. My hope is that they get through Tech , take advantage of the bye to clean up some things, and get healthy. As it stands now that 3 game stretch to end the season looks troubling.

It's fact, not pessimism. This team has issues that we want to discuss.
No baseless vendettas should be imposed by doing so.

Don't ever drink the Kool aide or grape Flavor aide. There are "so called experts" that try and predict the winners and losers each week, and they suck at it. We are having a very entertaining edge of your seat season. Swtizer was #2 in the nation and lost to a very bad Kansas team. We didn't lose this time and we don't know if we are going to win any of the next games. How fun. I'm a Sooner. I've been in the stands when we won 3 games in a season with only 16,000 fans in the stands. I loved looking at that stadium and all the die hard red blooded Sooner fans. If we lose a game, it's because you're not cheering enough. We've won eight (8) games and I expect we're going to win another one. Boomer Sooner!

We are trending down. Not a fluke almost-loss. I believe nothing I can't see for myself when it comes to the hype machine. Name a team in the top 25 we would have beaten Saturday with that performance.

Kansas played their best football in a decade during a electrical power outage at their home field. You've already lost the rest of the season, I'll just watch and see what happens.

That "very bad" 1975 Kansas team went 7-5 and lost 33-19 to Pittsburgh (who won the national championship a year later) in the Sun Bowl.
OU played some away games in the 1960, 1961 and 1965 that drew small crowds but always had crowds of at least 40,00 in Norman during those lean years.
Kansas State in the 1961 game drew 11,906 which is the post 1950 record low. Iowa State in 1962 drew 15,451. Kansas State drew 12,200 in 1963 and 13,832 in 1965....all these games were away games.

We've all half empty/full glasses. Part of the ride brother. Let's enjoy it. 😉

Right now, there is a lot of pessimism to go around here, and just about any other Sooner site. You'd think we were 5-3.

I think it cuts both ways right? Some people would think we are true contenders with a chance in the playoffs simply because OU is undefeated.

I am still rooting them on and will continue to do so but to dismiss how the team has played (not once a complete game according to LR), not have beaten a team which is currently ranked, and a defense regressing in the DC's third year...well even I do not have those big of blindspots.

I am spoiled, barely winning a Big 12 conference championship and getting fed to Georgia et al is not as appealing as it once was. I am just looking for some accountability and improvement and it starts at the top.

My take is that we're 8-0. To me, for this season, that's good. Damn good. I recognize the hype-o-meter was regstrering as 'Strong' pre-season but I never thought this team was make it to the Natty game. We may not even make the playoffs either. But my point is 2022 is the year I expect to see some good things. This year's class is getting very valuable playing time, the 2021 class looks good and the 2023 class is blowing it out. The future is front of us, not behind us. 8-0 is nothing to be ashamed of. But dropping a game isn't either. This team just isn't healthy and the back ups simply are not getting it done. We don't have the depth it takes to win a Natty. Not this year anyway.

Newnasty, best remarks I've read so far.
No one can deny the team's promising future as good young talent is already on the roster and more of it is on the way through at least the 2023 recruiting class.
Whatever 2021 is about, there is a development of many young players getting playing time and somehow finding ways to win games even though the opposition is average at best. These gut check wins have to serve the Sooners well in the future, this season and beyond.
November will reveal, once and for all, how worthy this team is for winning a Big 12 title again and sliding into a playoff spot. It may require a Jekyl-Hyde transformation, but the resources are in place to make it happen......and the uncertainty surrounding this team can go away if the team gets healthier and better and can play well through an entire game.

What a great season! It's scary to re-watch every game so far. It looks scary but it'll end up being one of the best seasons ever.
I glad you have that thinking but unless the defense wakes up we might win the Big 12 and if we make the playoffs it might be like the last 3 times 1 and done I know we're missing some starters because of injury and have played 8 straight but the defense needs to wake up.

I'm enjoying the good times. Texas A&M has recruited better than OU and they have two losses and are ranked 17. Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, and Clemson have out recruited OU by leaps and bounds and they all combine for 9 losses. If those teams can lose to the UCLAs and NC States then we can too, on any given weekend. During the OU vs UT game we were down by 21, "only 8 field goals to get the win!" I said. If we win this will be a great instant classic! That game is an instant classic. We have to take the harder route of developing OL, MLB, and CB positions than other top teams. Most of the time we average about #15 in recruiting. In the last few years we've landed a couple of top 10 recruiting classes. Year in and year out OU plays better than expected per recruit rankings. I have no idea what's going to happen, but Alabama with their 22 five star recruits was beat by A&M and their 8 five star recruits. I will be happy to run the table and play Alabama and their 21% higher ranked recruits. I'll be so happy to have the chance and even happier to beat them. We could easily lose the next four games, but I don't have a defeatist attitude. What happens will happen and the only effect I can have on the game is by cheering for my team. I will do my part. (if you have any other ideas on how to affect the other team, let me know.)
