Not even the birth of his first child on Thursday night could keep Steelers QB Landry Jones away from practice on Friday morning.

Urged by his wife Whitney, Jones celebrated the birth of Ezekiel Jones at 12:54 a.m. and then hurried back to organized team activities with his teammates.

"My wife is an athlete, so she gets it," Jones said of Whitney, who starred on the women's basketball team while at OU. "You feel you have a responsibility to show up when you're supposed to be here. She was great. She was understanding. She was the one who told me to go in."

Jones jogged off the field following practice and rushed back to the hospital to be with his family.

When asked about the baby's name, Jones joked that he and Whitney "went through the Old Testament, closed our eyes and picked a name."

Any man that knows anything about women has learned through experience that even though she said this, she actually meant the opposite. Lol

Congrats to the Landry family!!

Boy that's a tough one, but I think I'm on Billy Ray's side on this one. Though I promise you, I wasn't smart enough to be when my first came along.

I was coaching football that year. My son was born on OU Texas weekend. It was the year that Dupree ran 60 or whatever it was on the fake reverse, and I think we won 28-22. But in the late morning, my kids had a game. I had nt children on the team. My kids meant my players.

My long time assistant was the head coach for the year, but he had no clue about how to call our plays. I sneaked out and got there in the middle of the first quarter. The happiest man in Dallas was my friend the coach. As I recall, we won a weird one.

Pretty sure Billy Ray is right that your wife might even feel obligated to tell you to go, but she REALLY wants you to stay. Mine wanted me to stay, but I felt an obligation for two hours.
