UPDATE 10:48p - Murray tells reporters on conference call he WILL play football and its already been discussed with A’s.

ORIGINAL — The Oakland Athletics have selected CF/QB Kyler Murray with the No.9 pick overall in the 2018 MLB Draft. Murray hit .296/.398/.556 (51 gms) and missed the final seven games in 2018. Let the speculation begin.

Harold Reynolds and Jim Callis both report Murray will still play football this season. Slot value of the No. 9 overall pick is $4,761,500.

Stunning.

* Kyler Murray is the 11th first round draft pick from Oklahoma since 1967, most recently Jon Gray went No.3 overall to the Colorado Rockies in 2013.
* Murray is the first position player from Oklahoma selected in the first round since John Russell in 1982. Jackson Williams (C) was selected in the supplemental first round (pick 43) in 2007.
